Day 4: Standing Strong in Red! 🔴✊🏫
Today marks the final day of our ESSC focus week, but it is far from the end of our unwavering support for the members, friends, colleagues, and students who make Estelle Sauget School of Choice the incredible place it is.

Our CFT Union family turned out in force today, wearing red to showcase our deep solidarity and visible support for everyone at ESSC. We want to make one thing perfectly clear: CFT is, and will always be, here to fight for fairness, respect, and a workplace that supports and uplifts every single person.

Thank you to everyone who stood with us this week. The week may be ending, but our solidarity never stops!

As we continue our Week of Solidarity with ESSC, we are grateful to share that Joy is back following the recent Board meeting. We know how much her absence was felt by her colleagues, and we are glad to see her return.

But solidarity is about more than one person or one week. Please continue to check in on your ESSC colleagues. A quick note, a phone call, or a simple message letting someone know you are thinking of them can make a difference, especially when people are feeling overwhelmed or unsupported.

Our colleagues need to know that they are not alone and that their union stands with them. Please take a moment this week to reach out.

🚨 ENOUGH IS ENOUGH AT ESTELLE SAUGET! 🚨

❤️🖤 WE STAND WITH JOY. WE STAND WITH OUR STAFF.

Estelle Sauget School of Choice (ESSC) is supposed to be one of our district’s premier schools.

But how can a school be successful for students when dedicated employees are being driven out the door?

SINCE AUGUST, ESSC HAS ALREADY LOST:

❌ 1 School Nurse
❌ 1 Teacher
❌ 1 Hall Monitor
❌ 2 Permanent Substitutes

FIVE EMPLOYEES. IN JUST TWO MONTHS.

And what has the staff been dealing with? A climate of constant pressure, excessive write-ups, and relentless micromanagement.

We've filed grievances. We've notified the District. We've raised concerns repeatedly.

AND ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Then there's JOY. ❤️

Our school secretary has endured this pressure since August. And to make matters worse, the very leadership responsible for supporting her can't even get her name right.

HER NAME IS JOY. NOT JOYCE.

Yet the PRINCIPAL continues calling her "Joyce."

So this week, our staff is sending a message that can't be ignored.

✊ "I STAND WITH JOYce." ✊

You'll see those words on buttons worn proudly by employees standing together in solidarity.

Because this isn't just about Joy.

It's about RESPECT.
It's about DIGNITY.
It's about protecting the people who make our schools work.

Our students deserve stability. Our employees deserve respect. And our schools deserve leadership that builds people up instead of pushing them out.

The membership has overwhelmingly voted to ratify the contract.

Regardless of where anyone stood on the agreement, the decision has been made by the members. Their votes were counted, their voices were heard, and the membership has made its decision.

But our work does not stop here.

1272 will continue to fight for the schools our students deserve. We will continue to fight for transparency, financial accountability, and a commitment to putting our schools and students first.

The members decided. Their voice was heard. Now, we continue the work.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Cahokia Federation of Teachers Local 1272

Tonight, the membership of the Cahokia Federation of Teachers Local 1272 met to review, discuss, and vote on the tentative agreement reached with Cahokia Unit School District #187.

Following a thorough and lengthy discussion of the terms of the tentative agreement, the membership voted to reject the agreement.

CFT leadership will be communicating directly with the membership within the next several days regarding those next steps and what members should expect moving forward.

Until then, we ask our members to remain united, informed, and attentive to official communications from CFT leadership.
