It's Black History Month - February 27! On the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame Center Stage is - Emile Latimer - Buffalo Music Hall of Fame Alumni Class of 2000! Emile Latimer built an international career as a dynamic percussionist and drummer after emerging from the vibrant 1960s Greenwich Village music scene. He toured and performed alongside rising artists such as Richie Havens, Jimi Hendrix, Bill Cosby, and Richard Pryor. Latimer later joined Nina Simone’s touring band, performing his composition “Black Is the Color of My True Love’s Hair,” which appeared on Simone’s acclaimed live album Black Gold, recorded at Lincoln Center.Throughout his career Latimer performed around the world and appeared at major festivals including the Newport Jazz Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival. He also recorded with groups such as Gamalon and Spyro Gyra and released his own project, Emile Latimer With Abundance.
