Join us at Bar Laika on Wednesday, March 25 from 6pm for the thirtieth edition of Playback with Selwa Abd.

Selwa Abd is a Moroccan-born, New York–based interdisciplinary artist, composer, and design researcher working as Bergsonist. Her media, sound, and performance-based practice reconfigures archival and found materials into immersive environments. Drawing on electroacoustic and musique concrète traditions, she employs granular and spectral techniques to explore postcolonial identity, techno-futurism, and the psychological edges of virtuality. Abd has presented work at Roulette, ISSUE Project Room, MoMA PS1, Brooklyn Film Festival and MUTEK, and has been featured in BOMB Magazine, The Washington Post, GQ, and NPR. She has received support from NYSCA x Roulette, NYFA x Mayor’s Office for Entertainment’s Women’s Fund for Women, the Jerome Hill Artist Program, Issue Project Room, and Harvestworks. Her discography spans more than a decade, with releases on labels including Optimo Music, Borft, Columbia Records, and a forthcoming album on Dark Entries. Abd is also the founder of the opportunity resource Pick Up The Flow, the imprint bizaarbazaar and has been a resident DJ on NTS Radio since 2018.

Playback is a series of informal listening events curated by Kamran Sadeghi where record labels, musicians, composers, and producers feature recordings from their catalog, and premiere album pre-releases, archives, and other rarities.

Join us at Bar Laika on 𝙒𝙚𝙙𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙙𝙖𝙮, 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝 4 from 7pm for the twenty-eighth edition of 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠 with 𝙏𝙮𝙡𝙚𝙧 𝙁𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙙𝙢𝙖𝙣. The artist will present his forthcoming album 𝙈𝙀𝙏𝙇𝘼𝙎𝙍–a double LP of microtonal idiophones and fm synthesizer geometries–to be released March 27, 2026 on Radicant_Editions.

Tyler Friedman’s music vacillates between cosmic impulses and analytical inclinations. Escaping the rift between post-club experimentalism and the theory-driven partition of contemporary art, his output spans numerous releases, soundtracks, installations, collaborations and performances and draws on an unwieldy arsenal of divergent references and tactics. Friedman’s solo output focuses on a lysergic strain of dubbed minimalism, equally indebted to late-00s techno and the downtown avant-garde. Created largely in a feedback loop with modular synthesizers and Max/MSP, his sequences and generative patterns are infused with an intuitive complexity and alchemical formalism. Current trajectories point further away from the strictures of club music and have been increasingly oriented towards alternative tunings and uncanny harmonic interactions. His music has been released on Sweden’s Kontra Musik, Arjuna Records, Tokyo-based Protection and Radicant_Editions. In the context of contemporary art, Friedman works to manifest conceptual constellations in sonic form. He has been responsible for the sonics of collaborative projects that have been commissioned and presented worldwide, including at dOCUMENTA(13), Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Manifesta, Cycle Music & Arts Festival and the Yokohama Triennale among others.

Isobel Waller-Bridge is an award-winning composer known for her scores for film, television, ballet, and theatre, alongside her work in electronic and contemporary classical music. She works in a wide range of genres, extending across large-scale orchestral music, electronic sound design, experimental music, and songwriting. Her newest album Objects released in December 2025. Written over four years in the rare quiet moments her career allowed, Objects draws from the philosophies of Pauline Oliveros and the experimental radicalism of Stockhausen. Mining sounds from her surroundings and filtering them through minimalism and musique concrète, Waller-Bridge finds music within everyday materials — a ball, a shoe, a cushion, a pane of glass — each becoming a conduit for tenderness and attention. It has been praised by NPR for being “full of soft, patient, beautiful, still instrumentals” and by KCRW for its “personal, mysterious response to the world around us.”

Isobel has scored a multitude of films, including Munich: The Edge of War, Emma, Wicked Little Letters, and the BAFTA-winning and Oscar-nominated The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse. Her television scores include Fleabag, Black Mirror, and Sweetpea. Her commissions include original work for the American Ballet Theatre for their new production of Crime and Punishment, alongside Temperatures for the Philharmonia Orchestra, which premiered at the Royal Festival Hall in 2021. She has collaborated with Alexander McQueen and Simone Rocha, scored installations at Frieze London and Venice Biennale, and partnered with the Royal Opera House’s Francesca Hayward.

Join us at Bar Laika on Wednesday, 𝙉𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧 5𝙩𝙝 from 6pm for the twenty-second edition of 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠 with 𝘿𝙚𝙗𝙞𝙩 and 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙧. Both artists will feature their new solo albums on the record label Modern Love.

𝘿𝙚𝙗𝙞𝙩 is a composer, producer, and performer whose work spans avant-garde experimentation, global club mutations, and site-specific art. Her upcoming release, Desaceleradas (Modern Love, Nov 7, 2025), reimagines 1990s cumbia rebajada mixtapes from Monterrey, layering archival material with ARP 2600 synthesis, accordion, and granular processes. Her works have been presented at institutions including the Whitney Museum, Venice Biennale, TONO Festival and Haus der Kunst.

𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙧 is Guy Brewer’s outlet for pressure, space, and restraint, a project that privileges atmosphere over genre rules. This sensibility reaches a new scale on Brewer’s first full-length as Carrier, Rhythm Immortal (Modern Love, Oct 24, 2025). Across the album, fractured syncopations intertwine with weightless ambience, expanding the project’s contours into something both elegant and raw. The works under the Carrier name outline a precise, atmospheric practice: lean on the surface, heavy underneath, always edging forward while resisting the pull of easy resolution. Carrier will perform live on November 6 at Pioneer Works for Durations Festival.
