2019. I couldn’t find anything about the Orisha on the internet. So I spent hours in books, scholarly articles, webinars…anything I could get my hands on.

Years later, I’m a devotee walking the path toward initiation. The Orisha have woven themselves into my life, guiding me toward happiness, prosperity, and abundance.

I started sharing my journey because I knew I wasn’t the only 30-something Black woman seeking healing through ancestral spirit. Every story I’ve told has helped me move through heartache, betrayal, loss, confusion….every story has been a prayer.

When I first started learning about the Orishas, I fell down a rabbit hole I never climbed back out of. Every name led to three more names. Every story led to a story behind that story. I remember finding out about Olokun for the first time and just sitting with it for days.

Ten more of the 401 today. Have you heard of any of these before this post?

If this is your first time meeting even one of them, that feeling you have right now, that’s the same one I had. It doesn’t go away. It just gets deeper the more you learn.
