She was the river itself, yet they ignored her.

She was the embodiment of femininity, beauty, and grace, yet they questioned her importance.

She was everything fresh and sweet in the world, but they insisted on doing things the hard way.

They believed they could build a world without her. That strength alone would be enough. That power, force, and determination could accomplish what they desired.

So Oshun let them try.

And when their efforts failed, when nothing flourished, and when the world they were building refused to come together, they finally understood what they had overlooked.

Sweetness was never an option. It was a necessity.

Oshun taught them that life becomes very bitter when you refuse to acknowledge the sweetness that makes it worth living.

And sometimes, the very thing you dismiss is the very thing you need.

Oya is Change. I’ve changed so much in the past 6 years. The only thing that has been constant since beginning my journey is change. From the city I reside in, to the people surrounding me everything has changed. Especially the way I see myself and the world. I give thanks to Oya Iyansa. The mother of 9. Guardian of the dead. Mother of the marketplace! Orchestrator of change! I give thanks to Oya Iyansa for changing me for the better.
