It's National Arson Awareness Week - Did you know that youth firesetting motives may result from several factors, including curiosity, experimentation, a cry for help, thrill-seeking, willful intent to cause destruction, and mental or emotional disorders?

Teach children: Fire is dangerous, only adults should use matches and lighters, even small fires can spread quickly, and that fire is a tool not a toy

Make your home safer: Inspect for fire hazards, keep lighters and matches away from children, make sure children are supervised, have working smoke detectors on every level and inside and outside sleeping areas, and plan/practice your home fire escape plan
