Did yall know we have our very own mineral water made just for us by the cutie homies at Fonta Flora Brewery?!

As a long time Vichy Catalan water lover (iykyk, go get you some, it’s salty and delish) I wanted to recreate it with an Appalachian twist. Fonta Flora already makes their own mineral water from the well on their gorgeous Nebo property, so I knew it was the move to holler at them about it. Almost every drink we have on the menu has at least a little splash of the Swan Water™️ in it. Full of flavor, a lil salty, and bubbly af, just like you.

Book Club Alert!

Come hang out, talk books, and have a glass of whatever makes you happy. The book club will rotate monthly with a different book, theme, and host. This month I’ll (Kristen) be hosting, and we’ll be reading Stone Blind, a reframing of the Medusa story.

I’ll have some used copies of the book for sale next week (I’ll post when they get here!). Can’t wait to hang with yall!

We’ve been open for just over a week, and every day has felt a little more like home.

One of our favorite parts has been getting to meet so many of the people who live just around the corner. Bry and I have been so excited (and honestly, a little surprised) by how many neighbors have wandered in who *just get it*. It’s been such a good reminder that we really did land in the right place.

Each shift has brought more familiar faces coming back, more people meeting each other, and so many conversations that have made us stop for a second and think, yeah… this is exactly what we hoped for.

We’ve lost count of how many times someone has told us, “Thank you for opening this,” or “we needed a place like this.” Hearing that has been incredibly meaningful and we truly just want to keep pouring our hearts into a space that can be yours, too. I’ve spent a long time dreaming about what The Swan could be, but it doesn’t become this kind of place without all of you showing up, so from the bottom of our very, very tired hearts - thank you.

Whether you came in for a glass of wine, picked up a new plant, stayed for an extra drink because the Rose Vermouth spritz does in fact slap that hard , or just popped in to see what we were all about, thank you. Truly.

We will expand hours soon, but for now - come see us M, T, W 2-at least 9 and Fri/Sat 12-10.

We quietly opened our doors this week, and we can’t wait to welcome you in.

The past few months of getting The Swan, A Fern Bar 🦢🪴🍷 ready has been one of the most challenging, most exciting, and most fulfilling thing I’ve ever done.
This dream has been a pretty steady one for 8 years, and I think if I was fully honest ith myself, I don’t think I ever believed it would happen. I’ve mulled over this caption for far too long, and nothing feels quite right, nothing quite seems to cover the excitement, fear, gratitude, overwhelm, and all the other emotions swirling around, so for now I’ll just say thank you - to each person who picked up a paint brush or mop, followed along, donated to the GoFund Me, purchased plants, and just asked me how I was doing over the past 5 months. Thank you. Your support got us here. And now we invite you in.

Beginng with some limited hours, we will be open Monday, Wed-Thurs from 2-9, and Friday-Sat 12-9 with the goal of adding a day and longer hours over the next few weeks as we figure out all the things. So, come have a glass of wine, beer, a spritz (white port and tonic, y’all), or an NA beverage, shop plants, and hang at the Swan, beginning tomorrow July 15th.

See you soon.

Hi, friends! I wanted to do the whole intro thing. I’m Kristen, owner of The Swan. I started this plant business in 2017, took a few other opportunities, and ended up back here, ready to hang with you at a plant bar.

I’ve lived in Avl/Swannanoa since 2014 and I’m originally from Illinois. I’ve grown up in hospitality since age 13 and went to school for fashion marketing in Chicago. During that time I discovered my love for graphic design, and taught myself how to dig deeper into those skills. I worked as Head of Art & Design at Burial Beer Co for the better part of the last decade and created statement jewelry through my other business, .hollow.hills. All of these ventures and skills have brought me here, along with my love of houseplants & hospitality.

I’m a cat lover, elder millennial, lover of all things vintage, and admirer of good space. I love branding and design, reading suspense books in a day, and thrifting. I 🩶 Caesar salad, a minerally white or chilled red wine, and I love a good outfit with a badass pair of pants.

I believe all humans deserve respect regardless of status, heritage, race, or gender identity. I believe we can do better as a society, and a lot of it starts with connecting with one another. I hope to create a space that nurtures that and supports things I’m proud to stand behind.

I aim to create a space that is filled with love and intention, authenticity, and makes you feel welcome. A place that offers you a beverage whether you’re looking for a glass of wine, a Low/ No ABV Bev, etc, without making you think too hard about it. I want to offer things that expand your experience but don’t feel intimidating; whether it’s the wine list or plant offerings, everything should feel easy & inviting.

I can’t wait to meet you in person, show you a pic of my cats, and pour you a drink. Thank yall so much for being here through each messy, imperfect, and beautiful step of this journey - I appreciate it more than you’ll ever know. I’ve dreamt of this for a long time and the fact that’s it’s finally happening is so exciting and I’m so happy to share it with you.
