Second in our DJ lineup is Mitch! Hey, thanks for making this event awesome!

Did you know that dancing is the scariest social activity for brand new beginners? Just kidding, I made that up 😉🤷 But for me (Rye), that was definitely true.

Getting up the courage and gay audacity 🏳️‍🌈 to go to a dance with majority people I didn't know and without an ounce of dance experience was absolutely terrifying. It was also the best decision of my life.

Dancing opened my world to new people, passions, and softness I had never experienced anywhere else. And now it's one of my favorite things on my calendar.

Q***r Fusion - Spring Fae Masquerade
Saturday March 28th at Plant Bar Downtown Asheville

Social Dancing 8:30p-11:30pm

🌞Welcome spring in the warmth of q***r community! At the March Q***r Fusion Dance! Dress as a fae, flower, critter, or other spring joy (or however you feel most comfy and magical) 💐🧚🏻🌿🦔✨

🌷What is fusion?
Fusion is a style of social partner dancing that embodies connection and communication, combining elements from many styles of partner dancing, originating from Blues. Anything safe and considerate goes.

🌷Who can come?
This is a space for q***r people and *enthusiastic allies! Hatred of any kind will not be tolerated. This is a q***r-centered space for folks to feel confident and authentic. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️No dance experience necessary!

🌷How does sliding scale work?
This event has a suggested donation of $10-20, cash or Venmo at the door. Proceeds support Asheville Phoenix Fire, a local non-profit working to create q***r sober event spaces.
If you have a little more to give, we’d be grateful for the support! If a lower donation will meet your needs, that’s ok too. We also encourage work trades - volunteer for an hour for free entry!

Dress as your favorite mythical beast (or however you are comfiest), come dance and make new friends, get your picture taken by Brennan Henshaw (if you want to), and support us in raising funds for Asheville Phoenix Fire to open a q***r sober space!

Connor will be wrapping up our evening with the last set of the night.

Connor (he/him) has been dancing and DJing West Coast Swing, Blues, and Fusion for over a decade. His style combines gooey late-night vibes with powerful lyrical flair and features influence from R&B, EDM, and Hip Hop.

A lot of people find late night fusion sets to be the most satisfying and connective, so be sure to stay for Connor's set!

Our second DJ of the night is Winter!

Winter (she/they) is an energetic, epic-themed soul who brings the feels and energy alike, Winter has a knack for musicality and beats that leap and spin as much as you will during her sets. Known to some as DJ Fancypants, she has more than proven her chops, having served up sets at Austin Fusion Festival, Fusion Orlando, Fuze-On Tampa Bay, and Menagerie Fusion in Atlanta.

Introducing the DJs for our June 14th event!

The first set of the evening will be a collaboration by two of our Q***r Fusion organizers, Rye and Julia!

Rye (they/them) has been dancing fusion and contra for a year. Their previous housemates are some of the Asheville Fusion organizers who introduced them to social partner dancing. They quickly fell in love with connecting to people through dance and music. Rye is one of the board members of Asheville Phoenix Fire, a local q***r nonprofit focused on creating q***r-safe events.

Julia (she/her) began her social dance journey in 2019 with East and West Coast Swing. Not long after, she discovered the fusion scene and was drawn in by its emphasis on connection, creativity, and community. Her taste in music is eclectic, but she loves trying to craft cohesive, thoughtfully curated playlists that bring dancers together on the floor.

When you see them Saturday, ask for a dance!
