MOB THE SKY by NitaJade coming 2027 from Loblolly Press.

NitaJade, an Affrilachian Poet and self-proclaimed weirdo, hails from Asheville, NC. They earned their B.A. from Berea College (2019) and their MFA in Creative Writing: Poetry from the University of Kentucky (2022). They insist that their late O.G. Queen's sweet potato pie epitomizes love, and they aspire to embody the aesthetics of sloths and narwhals (slarwhals, if you please). They laugh loudly and stubbornly. NitaJade’s debut poetry collection, Mob the Sky, is expected to release in 2027.

Matt Salerno interviews Kristin Entler on shining a light on long-term chronic illness, and their "experiences of living with cystic fibrosis [and] the reality of relationships and everyday life built around the fatigue of constant care."

Huge shoutout to Mountain Xpress and Thomas Calder that continually support arts and writing in our local community in Western North Carolina.

TODAY is the last day to submit your work to our special edition anthology, Southern writers on poverty. It's incredibly important that writers from across the South submit to this open call.

One of our most important goals for this anthology is that it reflects the true lived experience of poverty in the South, especially from writers but also from folks who may be writing and publishing their first piece with us. If you have something to share, now is the time to submit.

This special edition anthology, slated for publication in Fall 2027 is edited by Dr. Monic Ductan. Monic Ductan teaches American literature, African American literature, and creative writing workshops in both fiction and nonfiction. Dr. Ductan's writing has appeared in Oxford American, Shenandoah, South Carolina Review, Appalachian Review, and several other journals. She’s the author of Daughters of Muscadine, a book about working-class Black women in a small, Georgia town.
