If you’re looking for a hearty, flavorful, low-carb meal that the entire family will love, this Filthy Cabbage recipe is a must-try!
Ingredients
Smoked beef sausage, diced
Ground beef (1 lb)
Butter (for sautéing)
Veggies: 1 large white onion (diced), green & orange bell peppers (diced), 1 head of green cabbage (chopped)
Seasonings: Garlic powder, onion powder, Adobo, Sazón Completa, smoked paprika, Tony Chachere’s Creole seasoning, Butter Garlic seasoning, Salt Pepper & Garlic blend
Tomato paste (2–3 tbsp)
Beef broth (~1 cup)
Steamed white rice (optional, for serving)
Instructions
Sauté Sausage: In a large skillet or pot, melt butter and brown the diced smoked sausage until crispy. Remove and set aside.
Brown Meat & Season: In the same skillet, add the ground beef. Season generously with onion powder, garlic powder, Adobo, Sazón Completa, and smoked paprika. Cook until fully browned, then drain excess fat.
Build the Flavor: Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1–2 minutes to deepen the flavor. Add the chopped onions and bell peppers, stirring until softened.
Simmer Cabbage: Mix the browned sausage back into the pot, then pile the chopped cabbage on top. Pour in beef broth, cover with a lid, and let it steam down until tender.
Final Touch & Serve: Uncover, give everything a good mix, and top with Butter Garlic, Salt Pepper Garlic, and Creole seasoning to taste. Serve hot on its own for a low-carb option or over a bed of warm white rice!
