One of the newest and probably one of the most inexperienced teams in the National Pool League is the Reel Steel Shotters of Fyazabad but what they lack in ‘Table Time’ is made up for with heart and determination. That may not always translate to wins but it shows that joy can also come from simply participating.
The ‘Shotters’, who play their pool at the Reel Steel Bar and Lounge on Siparia Old Road, again took a beating on Wednesday, away from home at crosstown Penal neighbours Headquarters. Despite going down five games to nil, their sixth shut out in eight rounds, the Dilip ‘Pepper’ Deo led team, have vowed to soldier on.
Playing without their inspirational captain, due to illness, the ‘Shotters’ kicked off their away encounter with Felix ‘Dan’ Reyes. He was drawn to play Visham Jaichan in game 1with Jaichan winning the encounter 3-1. Ashram Rampersad was next for the visitors and gave a better showing managing two frames against Nicholas Ramlakha. The doubles pair of Davis ‘Roddy’ Mathura and Russell Mathura took on Arthur Goberdhan and Damian Solomon and lost 1-3. Radesh Seepersad then extended the hosts’ lead by beating Ryan Pardasie three straight and HQ’s captain Christopher Lee Ganese aka Specs completed the sweep with a 3-1 win over Dillon Deo. All players were racing to three games.
In Duncan Village: United Stars, despite losing the first game, stopped the Liquidatorz winning streak at three with a 3-2 win away at Club Liquidz. Winning for the hosts were Veteran Richardson Mohammed and Micah Singh in the first and fifth games respectively. While for the visitors, Mark ‘Terrance’ Cannon, Lyndon Ramkisson and Aaron Raghoonanan in the doubles, and captain Ravy Goorah were on the winning side.
In Curepe: Kenny’s stopped Pit & Pub 3-2 in an exciting encounter which came down to a fifth and deciding game. The decider saw a battle of two National players Zubir Sankar and Imran Ramjhewan locking horns. Sankar was close to perfect as he won five straight much to the delight of the visiting Kenny’s contingent.
In other games, Upper Deck won their third straight, beating Punishers 3-2 and The Specialists returned to winning ways with a 5-nil thrashing of Spar United.
