PHIL HEADS THE WAY AT SILKY OAK

Last game of the week saw us head off to Silky Oak on what was another hot, but breezy day. Even off the yellow days, it is still a tough course especially the opening nine. Despite the toughness, the course was in very good condition with plenty of work ongoing by the green keeping staff.
Anyone who scores over 36 is playing well and it was Phil Mitchell who ran away with an excellent 40 points to win by 5 points over John Browning. Paul Tidy completed the podium with 34.

NIGEL CONTINUES WINNING WAYS AT PLEASANT VALLEY

Our mid-week saw us take 4 groups to Pleasant Valley on what was another hot and humid day. The course was in very good condition with fast greens and some very difficult pin positions. With PSC providing green fee vouchers at 600 baht, many players took the opportunity to walk at 400 baht which was quite a considerable saving by not using a cart.
Nigel Henson has been on a good run and his good form continued when he was victorious for the 2nd time this week. His 39 points was 3 clear of his nearest challengers George Wilson and Tony Browne. The final podium place went to George Mueller. A special word of praise must go to Brendon Kane. Brendon, who plays off 7, shot 20 points on the front 9 and hit a good drive around the corner on the long 10th hole. After failing to find his ball he declared the ball lost only to find the ball a further 20 yards up the fairway from where they were looking. Brendon declared that he had his 3 minutes looking for the ball and picked the ball up. Great sportsmanship.

NIGEL LEADS THE WAY AT CRYSTAL BAY

Our first game of the week saw us take the trip up to Crystal Bay on what was an excellent day weather wise for golf. Crystal Bay, like its neighbour Mountain Shadow, is very good value at 1250 baht. The last 2 holes on the A nine make it worth the 1250 baht alone.
Nigel Henson is quite a regular on the podium but it certainly did not look like that would continue after recording only 1 point for the opening 3 holes. To his credit, he got his game back under control and headed the field with 34 points which was 1 better than Mai.

TONY WINS A CLIFFHANGER BUT PLUTALUANG COMES OUT ON TOP

Our last game of the week saw us take 4 groups to a sunny Plutaluang to take on the North and West 9`s. When we say `take on`, it certainly didn’t turn out that way with the North and West 9`s totally dominating our 4 groups of which not one player managed to score 30 points. In their defence, never have the white tees been so far back and with no run on the course, it was a hard battle. Three players managed to score 29 points of which Tony Cliff came out on top courtesy of his 14 points on the back 9. Another 2 players managed 28 points.

RUSSELL TRIUMPHS AT A TESTING MOUNTAIN SHADOW

Mountain Shadow was today`s venue and at 1250 all in, it is very good value. There are many difficult holes and if you can get round in the mid-30 points range you have played well. The course was in good condition although it is necessary to play preferred lies in the bunkers. Mountain Shadow, like Crystal Bay and Plutaluang, have many canines that like the course and in particular, the bunkers!
It was a very open competition with Russell Blatchford parring the last 3 holes to sn**ch victory from Glen Elsworth and George Mueller.
One of the great things about Mountain Shadow, and Crystal Bay, is that their prices have remained constant through high and low seasons.
