In the heart of North Macedonia’s Tikveš wine region, three distinct micro-locations — Lepovo, Bela Voda, and Barovo — offer a glimpse into some of the most expressive and character-driven wines in the Balkans.

Barovo, perched at altitudes reaching 1,100 meters, is often referred to as the highest “fruit garden” in the Balkans. Here, cool mountain air meets bright sun exposure, allowing grapes to ripen slowly and develop remarkable depth and freshness.

Lepovo enjoys a sun-drenched Mediterranean climate where a perpetual breeze dances through the vines. The vineyard’s sandy, beach-like soils create a warm, relaxed terroir — ideal for producing lush, powerful wines with a gentle elegance.

Bela Voda, a vineyard named after its own location, benefits from a unique geographic setting that imparts a distinct fingerprint to its wines. In the hands of skilled winemakers, the essence of this place is beautifully preserved, producing bottles that are both refined and unmistakably expressive of origin.

At the heart of these terroirs is Vranec, the region’s iconic varietal, showcased across all three vineyards. Supporting roles are played by native and international grapes such as Plavec, Kratošija, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Shiraz, each finding their best expression in these remarkable sites.

🦀🔥 White Pepper Crab x Gigondas? Unexpectedly perfect.

We brought two powerhouse wines—Vacqueyras L'Atelier and Gigondas La Référence—to the seafood table at Cheng Ji, and let’s just say… fireworks.💥

The peppery spice of the crab met its match in the warm spice, dark fruit, and herbal lift of these southern Rhône reds. 🍷🌶️
