Berm crew took out the Rexx Titanium hardtail bike for a ride through MacRitchie Reservoir. This central spot isn't just where many of us grew up pushing our limits in cross-country runs, it’s the green heart of Singapore, connecting seamlessly to a massive network of nature reserves. From the dirt paths of MacRitchie trail, we used to pedal all the way to Rifle Range Road and the dedicated MTB trails at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Chestnut Nature Park.
There's even deep history buried beneath these trees. During WWII, Japanese soldiers built a Shinto shrine right inside this forest, leaving behind ruins and urban legends of hidden treasure, now swallowed up by nature.
Seeing our native flora and fauna thrive alongside history is a constant reminder of what truly matters. We can only hope our government takes strong action to stop deforestation and safeguard the fragile biodiversity we have left.
People often picture Singapore through the lens of "Crazy Rich Asians," but the real flex? Being Crazy Rich in Nature. Our little tropical dot shows that urban life and well-preserved ecosystems can co-exist. By protecting these green spaces, we can build a thriving local MTB sport, support our homegrown cycling industry, and promote a healthy lifestyle across our whole sporting community.
