EARTHQUAKE ALERT | Mindanao, June 8, 2026

This morning, a powerful earthquake struck off the coast of Sarangani, Mindanao. According to initial reports from PHIVOLCS, the quake occurred at around 7:37 AM and was measured at Magnitude 7.8, with a shallow depth of approximately 10 kilometers. Strong shaking was felt across parts of Mindanao, including General Santos City and nearby provinces.

PHIVOLCS also issued a tsunami warning for several coastal areas in Mindanao, urging residents in vulnerable communities to move to higher ground and follow the instructions of local authorities. Areas placed under warning included Sarangani, Davao Occidental, Tawi-Tawi, Sulu, Basilan, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Sultan Kudarat, and South Cotabato.

As of this writing, authorities continue to assess possible damage while monitoring aftershocks and sea-level conditions. Residents are advised to remain vigilant, avoid spreading unverified information, and rely on official updates from PHIVOLCS, local DRRM offices, and government agencies.
