Wonderful man he has done so much for the New Zealand Jazz and Blues scene plus music in general. His retirement from emceeing and being part of the Jazz and Blues Club leaves a huge pair of shoes to fill.

MERV THOMAS - SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT - 18-2-26

It is with great sadness that we have to pass on a message from Merv our wonderful Emcee.

Our wonderful Master of Ceremonies, trombone player and vocalist has had to retire from his duties at our club due to health issues.

Merv wishes to pass on his thanks and gratitude to the Committee, helpers and members who have all made the AJ&B Club run smoothly which was a big part of his life and he was very proud to be the Master of Ceremonies for over 10 years.
He has introduced in the vicinity of 500 events over those years and played his trombone on many occasions. We will all miss Merv greatly and are extremely grateful for his knowledge, his music and his dedication to the AJ&B Club over the years.

We wish Merv well and hope he can find some comfort and support with his ongoing health issues.

A very difficult gap to fill, however, Robin (Committee Member) will assist in this role until a possible replacement Emcee can be found.

Adrian and his trio are amazing. Definitely one of my highlights from last year.

Without doubt one of the finest Clarinetists in the world today, Sweden-based UK star Adrian Cox brings his European trio to Batch Winery for one show only, on Monday 6 April. We brought Adrian to Waiheke in 2025 and have invited him back based on your feedback!

Adrian is one of the most prodigious talents in Jazz today.

Also on the bill at the JAZZ LONG LUNCH are New Zealand’s favourite Jazz entertainers the wonderful Nairobi trio, as well as Australasia’s queen of the Boogie-woogie piano, Jan Preston and drummer Mike Pullman.
