John Foster, Master Photographer

John Foster, Master Photographer John Foster is a New Zealand-based Master of Photography and a qualified member of NZIPP. www.foster I love taking pictures. I love to create.

There is nothing that can beat giving someone pictures that amazes and inspires. Originally a Draughtsman for Civil Aviation, my desire to be creative was too strong. My first inspiration was landscapes but pictures of people is my gift. It wasn’t until Canadian photographer, writer and teacher Freeman Patterson said to me “I wish I could take portraits like you” It made me realise that I had some

thing special to give when it came to portraiture. To be honest it was a complete surprise at the time - I guess it was a turning point. I believe it’s my ability to make people feel relaxed – in front of a camera. If you prefer photos when you are unaware of the camera, you will know what I mean. My forte is to make everyone look amazing. If you think you are un-photogenic then you are in for the biggest surprise! Since the tragedy of the Christchurch earthquakes I have more time to do landscapes again and I find it really rewarding. I have been traveling between Christchurch and Wanaka ever since. Central Otago is amazing. Also I really enjoy teaching photography. I have previously tutored at the University of Canterbury – Department of Continuing education. I did that part time for over 10 years before I got too busy. I am teaching part-time again at Papanui High School and love it. I could mention my awards, accolades and qualifications but I would rather let my images speak for themselves. Yes I am a Master of Photography and a qualified member of NZIPP, but that only means something to me. You are the real judge of my imagery. For those who want to know about my awards etc. I will add them at the end. As for me personally, I have three amazing kids – they make me a very proud dad. Appreciate great food and wine (hate garlic) a cold beer after a hot day and listening to my favourite music. Enjoy my rugby and sports, guess I’m a kiwi bloke deep down. I don’t take things to seriously – enjoy life. Feel free to ask any questions or to get a quote. No obligation or hard sell - I promise. Drop me an email (use the contact tab) or phone/text on:

PS I must update my photo – I no longer have a mustache!

After a day of heavy showers on and off all day, we were rewarded by an amazing sunset at Motukeikei Beach near Barrytown on the West Coast. Taken on an NZIPP trip to Punakaiki. This is a panorama taken with my drone. I stitched this together in Lightroom.

A kiwi running at speed on Stewart Island. The photo was originally taken using a red torch, which made it almost useless. I then converted it to black and white before adding color in Photoshop.
