The Drama Committee of UCU organizes all events concerning theatre on campus. We produce 2 plays per year that are chosen or written, directed and acted out by students. We also organize workshops taught by off-campus teachers and have weekly improvisation meetings that also work towards a performance in the college bar.

When Blanche unexpectedly visits her estranged sister Stella, she brings with her a past that will threaten their future. As Stella’s husband Stanley stalks closer to the truth, Blanche’s fragile world begins to fracture. Reality and illusion collide and a violent conflict changes their lives forever.

DramaCo would like to invite you to see our second production of this academic year: Marius von Mayenburg’s The Ugly One. A biting, fast-paced German dark comedy that explores themes of beauty, identity, and consumerism

Lette, a successful engineer, has always considered himself average until he discovers the shocking truth: he is deemed unbearably ugly by his peers. This revelation comes to light when he is prevented from presenting his invention at a conference, a task handed over to his assistant instead. Desperate and humiliated, Lette turns to a plastic surgeon for a radical transformation. The surgery is a success beyond his wildest dreams, turning him into a stunning Adonis. However, his newfound beauty brings unforeseen complications.

SYNOPSIS:
The play is an exploration of social class differences and gender roles in the 1940s. Our anti-heroine Blanche Dubois depends on the kindness of strangers and is adrift in the modern world. When she arrives to stay with her sister Stella in a crowded, boisterous corner of New Orleans, her delusions of grandeur bring her into conflict with Stella’s crude, brutish husband Stanley. Eventually their violent collision course causes Blanche’s fragile sense of identity to crumble, threatening to destroy her sanity and her one chance of happiness.

**Note that this play has some intimate scenes which will be handled carefully during the rehearsal process

SYNOPSIS:
Lette, an engineer, discovers that everyone in his life considers him unbearably ugly, holding back his career and relationships. To remedy this, he decides to undergo plastic surgery, emerging impossibly handsome. Overnight, he gains success, admiration and desire from all. But soon, the surgeon begins to reproduce his miraculous transformation on others, leading to the appearance of multiple Lette ‘clones’. Suddenly stripped of his uniqueness and privilege, Lette spirals into an identity crisis, realizing that his fabricated beauty ultimately erases his identity and morals.
