Thirteen school children lost their lives on Monday, 19 January 2026, following a trág!c road accident near Vanderbijlpark in the Vaal area of South Africa.
The incident involved a minibus conveying pupils to school and a truck. Reports indicate that the minibus was attempting to overtake other vehicles when it collided head-on with the truck.
Several other pupils sustained injuries and were taken to nearby medical facilities.
Emotional scenes were reported at the scene as families gathered, including a mother who later confirmed that two of her children were among the victims.
The tragedy has plunged families and the community into mourning and has raised renewed concerns about the safety of school transportation in South Africa.
