Fellow farmers, we know how discouraging and painful it is to lose birds to diseases. Outbreaks can wipe out months of hard work, resources, and dreams. But remember: every challenge is an opportunity to learn and strengthen our farming systems.
đź’ˇ Here are ways to fight back against poultry diseases instead of giving up:
1. Biosecurity is your first line of defense
Limit visitors to your poultry area.
Always disinfect shoes, equipment, and hands before entering.
Keep wild birds and other animals away from your poultry.
2. Vaccinate on time
Vaccinations against common diseases like Newcastle, Gumboro, Marek’s, and Fowl Pox save lives.
Follow the recommended vaccination schedule from day-old chicks.
3. Separate the sick immediately
Quarantine any bird showing symptoms to prevent spreading the disease.
Do not mix age groups of birds — older birds can infect younger ones.
4. Maintain hygiene
Clean and disinfect the poultry house regularly.
Remove wet litter and keep bedding dry.
Provide clean water and fresh feed daily.
5. Work with a vet early
Don’t wait until losses are high — call a vet as soon as symptoms appear.
Get proper diagnosis and treatment instead of guessing.
6. Learn from every outbreak
Keep records of when and how the outbreak happened.
Adjust your management and vaccination plans to avoid a repeat.
Remember:
A farmer’s journey is not without storms, but it is those who endure and adapt that build success. Your farm can recover, your poultry can thrive again, and you can come back stronger than before. The birds’ lives are in your hands — let’s fight for them, not bury them alive.
