Today a classic wine from an ever more classic region, DOC 2019, Barco Reale Di Carmignano by

The Barco Reale di Carmignano is a fruity, fresh and easy drinking red wine, vinified in steel tanks and aged for 10 months in big French oak barrels. This wine is a younger and lighter version of Carmignano. It has notes of red & black fruit , cherries, blackcurrant and raspberry. The taste is balanced, smooth and persistent. A great entry level wine perfect for this season!

Back in the Carmignano DOC with Trefiano Rieserva 2016
By .by.renee
It is always hard to stay away from Italian wines. They bring such spice, vibrancy and intensity into the glass. This is exactly what I get from this single-vineyard production by Capezzana
Made on a vineyard by the 16th-century VIlla di Trefiano on the Capezzana Estate, a villa originally for the noble Florentine family the Rucellai. The villa is surrounded by ideal vineyards that work perfectly for the blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Canaiolo in the bottle
The Carmignano DOCG is located right near the Chianti zone but often gets overshadowed by its more famous neighbour. However, this region is not one to toss aside, the rolling hills of Carmignano have been making great wine for thousands of years!
In the glass we 2016 vintage. This was a phenomenal vintage in the region. The wine itself spends 16 months in tonneaux and 1 year in bottle before it hits the glass.
In the glass, this 2016 production shows aromas of herds that verge on florality with not of to***co and dried black fruits, mixed with earthy notes and savoury spices
On the palate, the wine is expansive, it is complex with layers of soft fruit notes and toasted spices
Put this bottle through a good decant and you will experience the best this wine has to offer
Ready to get more into what Capezzana has to offer?

By The award-winning flagship red 🍷 Ghiaie della Furba has recently obtained one more medal for the new vintage 2017 -🥇Grande Gold at Concours Mondial Bruxelles. Well deserved I should say!

The wine was created in 1979 by Ugo and Vittorio Contini Bonacossi who believed in the potential of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot on the terroir of Carmignano. “Ghiaie” refers to the gravelly soil of the river Furba that is similar to the one in Bordeaux. In 1998 the creators added Syrah that enriched the blend and contributed to its unique character.

Trebbiano Toscana is the third most planted grape in Italy (after Sangiovese and Pinot Grigio). It is a late-budding variety, so it generally avoids the risk of frost in the Spring. It is popular with producers because it is vigorous, high-yielding and has good disease resistance. Trebbiano Toscana is widely planted in Tuscany, where it thrives in the sun and heat. Importantly, however, it also retains high acidity. This high acidity also makes it a popular blending partner with other white grapes. Trebbiano Toscana is also widely grown in France, where it is called Ugni Blanc and used primarily for brandy.

I recently had the opportunity to taste the 2019 Capezzana Trebbiano Toscana IGT. This wine is 100% Trebbiano Toscana. It had subtle aromas of lemon, apple and white flowers. There was abundant acidity which perfectly balanced the fruit flavors and made you want to immediately reach for the next sip!

Carmignano is one of the lesser-known DOCGs in Tuscany; however, it was also one of the earliest protected denominations in the world, having been named a quality wine region by Grand Duke Cosimo III de”Medici who reigned in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The region takes its name from a village just over 10 miles west of Florence and was first incorporated under the Chianti region. But due largely to Count Ugo Contini Bonacossi of Tenuta di Capezzana, it received DOC status in 1975 and was later elevated to a DOCG in 1991.

And while this region is most recognized for its red wines, among them Sangiovese, Cab Franc and Sauv, and Canaiolo Nero, there are white grapes and wines as well. The white grapes found in Carmignano include Canaiolo Bianco, Malvasia, and Trebbiano.

Here we have the 2020 Trebbiano from the aforementioned Tenuta di Capezzana. A gorgeous, creamy white wine with a medium to almost full-body, a refreshing core of acidity, and bright citrus and stone fruits with a touch of herbaceousness on the finish.

This is the ideal white wine for the season with a dish of farro, quinoa or couscous laden with roasted fall squash over a bed of greens, lightly dressed with an olive oil vinaigrette. And of course when followed by a main dish of a perfectly cooked steak and a beautiful Capezzana red wine, what could be better?

A sip of 2017 Ghiaie della Furba IGT 🇮🇹

A biodynamic Bordeaux blend wine 🍷, it’s called Ghiaie della Furba, meaning the gravels along the Furba river. This vineyard site was to emulate Bordeaux with the original cuttings of Cabernet and Merlot 🌱 from known Chateau Lafite 🇫🇷.

🍷This wine is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and equal parts Merlot and Syrah🍇, complex and multi-layered both in the nose and palate. This wine has immense concentration, decant to open and enjoy its extraordinarily layered bouquet.

Aromas👃🏾of black currants, black raspberries, violets, plums and forest berries mingle with pepper spices and herbs like bay leaf; it shows sweet vanilla notes as it unravels.

The palate👅is rich and focused, tannins are present but well integrated like in a young Bordeaux, but it’s the piercing acidity what gives away its Italian origin.

Drink now and enjoy it with game, roasted meat, hard cheese or age for at least a decade.

🍷Cheers from🇦🇺Perth, Australia! Sip and Savour Mindfully!

By All biodynamic wine producers are organic but not all organics are biodynamic.

Biodynamics is a niche within organics that have stricter rules and that use some odd practices.

France has the largest number of biodynamic certified wineries with around 5000ha of vineyards where biodynamic viticulture is practiced.

Biodynamic wines are considered more balanced and complex that provide more authentic aroma’s and flavors.
Producing organic wines costs in general 10-15% more than conventional wines and for the production of biodynamic wines another 10-15% extra because biodynamic wine making is more labor intensive.

The extra work and attention to detail certainly pays off for this biodynamic wine Cosmique made by located in the Var region. It is a delicious fruity wine with a good structure that can be enjoyed on any occasion.
