She’s 25. She’s 55. And at our tables, they’re teaching each other. 💛

Some of my biggest lessons in business came from women half my age, and some from women who’ve been doing this for decades.

The secret? Leave your ego at the door and keep your respect at the table. 🫶🏻

“Can you add me to the group?” is one of the most common messages I get.

Last month, a woman joined one of our groups and didn’t post anything for the first week. She just replied to people. When someone asked for a reliable tailor in Bandra, she shared hers. When another member launched a product, she was the first to say congratulations.

In week three, she introduced her own business in four lines. She got five DMs that same day.

Same group, same people. The only difference is she said hello first.

Yesterday at our Networking Now event, a woman stood up to introduce herself and the business she’d built from scratch. You could tell it took courage.

Halfway through, a few people at the next table started whispering and laughing. I watched her voice drop. She cut her introduction short, sat down, and barely spoke for the rest of the evening.

A moment of someone else’s inattention cost her the confidence she walked in with.

Listen fully. Save the side chat for the coffee break. You never know who’s standing up for the very first time.

She came up to me after one of our events, holding a box of homemade brownies.

“Everyone says my food is amazing. But only my family orders.”

I asked her, “How many strangers have tasted this?”

She laughed. “Zero, actually.”

That’s the problem nobody talks about. Our first orders come from mummy’s friends, the building group, and cousins at Diwali. Then one month it just stops, and we start doubting our food, our prices, ourselves.

But nothing’s wrong with your food. You’ve just run out of people who already know you.

Friends buy to support you. Strangers buy because they trust you. 💛

“??” is not a follow-up. It’s a panic attack in punctuation. 😅

Give people a little breathing room, and a reason to reply.

Which one are you: the “??” sender or the “seen at 11:02” receiver?

A few years ago, I worked with someone who was brilliant at what they did and impossible to be around.

If a delivery ran late, they shouted. If a message went unanswered for an hour, the next one came in capitals. They would correct people in front of a full room, and everyone learnt to walk on eggshells around them.

For a long time I thought that was just how “serious” people worked. Loud meant powerful, and snapping meant they cared.

Then one day I saw them in a meeting with someone more senior. They went completely quiet. Polite, careful, almost nervous.

That’s when it clicked. The shouting was never about the delay or the message. It was fear: of looking weak, of losing control, of not being taken seriously.

The most powerful people I’ve met since have never raised their voice once. They don’t need to. Calm is what confidence looks like 👌🙌

A vendor once told me, “Ma’am, you’re a woman, you’ll understand. Give a small discount, na?”

I asked, “Would you ask a man for the same discount?”

He laughed. He didn’t answer.

That moment stayed with me. Not because of the discount, but because I realised how often women are expected to be “nice” about their worth.

So I stopped apologising for my price. And I built rooms where women don’t have to.

Yesterday I hosted our Spicy Sangria exhibition at Taj MG Road, Bangalore.

After hosting so many of these, I’ve stopped watching the crowd. I watch the small things:

- A designer standing up the moment someone slows down.
- A price tag no one has to ask about.
- One hero piece that makes people stop mid-sentence.
- A notebook quietly filling up with numbers.
- And my favourite: a customer walking in and saying, “I saw you last time. I came back for you.”

That’s never luck. It’s showing up season after season, following up and staying in people’s minds long after the lights go off.

Your first exhibition rarely changes everything. Your third or fourth does.

Consistency turns a stall into a destination.

Everything I’ve learned from the host’s side is in this carousel. Save it for your next show 🤍

We celebrate small businesses. Then we pay them last. 💸

Every week, I meet vendors, designers, caterers and creators who’ve delivered beautiful work, and are still typing “Just following up 🙏” weeks later.

You’re not being difficult. You’re asking for money you’ve already earned.
