THE DELHI PUB QUIZ
The Delhi Pub Quiz was started by Quiz Master Samir Krishnamurti, in 2010 when it was known as the T.L.R. It was then picked up by Quiz Master Andy Dodd, and until Andy relocated back to the UK, Samir and Andy used to host them together between 2012 and 2014. In the last five years, the Quiz has moved all around Delhi. Prior venues include T.L.R, Roost, the Toddy Shop and 39 in
HKV; Café 27 in Kailash Colony, and Biker's Bar and most recently Zu Tisch in GK 1. It has been hosted around 30 times, and now has a database of over 1,000 questions. The Delhi Pub Quiz is like most other quizzes in that it follows a steady format – a Picture Round to open with, followed by rounds on Music, Film&TV, Sports, Current affairs, and General Knowledge. But we always try and make at least some questions both interesting and informative. For example, did you know that the Sahara Desert is responsible for the fertility of the Amazonian basin. Google the “Bodele Depression” if you’d like to know more. Or that airlines save a ton of money since smoking was banned and they started recycling air? Or that Boeing used to make airplanes with the help of ferrets? Or that Bjorn Borg superstitiously never used to shave during Wimbledon? This and many other such quite interesting questions have guaranteed us a following that attend every quiz. Prizes from the quiz usually include one from the venue, which gives the winning team a hefty 50% discount on their tab for the night, or a bottle of wine or champagne. We’ve also been sponsored in the past by Randomhouse, Konark and Hachette, all of whom have donated books as prizes. Bloomsbury India is also a sponsor now, and will be providing books as prizes for the next few quizzes.
