Found by my Aunt Cath O Dowd…the poem White '47: The Road to The Black written by Seamus Dolan. Written about himself, my grandad Jack O’Dowd and Charlie Lynch being stranded in Glangevlin and Bawnboy in the massive snowstorm. They holed up in what is now O’Dowd’s Glan Bar. Charlie, in this poem, fell in love. It seems that was with a schoolteacher here and they went on to marry. Who knows more details to this story? Please comment…also, there will be a ledger in the pub once it opens below this poem framed (as well as pictures of each of them and the McGovern family member running the pub at the time) for guests to write details that they know of regarding the pub in those days and about The Big Snow as well. Follow us leading up to the grand opening at the end of the year!

OPENING DATE STILL DOWN THE ROAD but the goal is still to be open for Christmas time.
In the meantime, we’re getting settled in and are about to start remodeling the home above the Pub.
We are also piecing together any small changes and additions to the Pub itself. One such addition is vinyl records…lots of vinyl records…and a sound system that will play those with fairly high fidelity BUT will also double as a PA system for music nights that step further than sessions.
So, vinyl nights….bring a group of people and a group of records, we will spin your wax into the night’s festivities!

We love this photo on the mantel so much. Exploring this old building and its contents has been really fun and we’re getting to know the place well. We are feeling more at home every day and figuring out the little things that need some love. Post your favorite photo from anywhere in Glangevlin in the comments (or DM them if you prefer). Closing day! Keys are in hand! Major milestone in the process is complete but we have a long way to go to get settled before we can open. It was wonderful to be in Glangevlin today and spend time with neighbors, new friends, and family.

Stay tuned for opening information. We are targeting before the new year begins pending license transfer and a few other things.

And for everyone asking about the kitties, they are doing great!

Tomorrow we begin our journey to our new home!!

Today is our last day in our old home. There is nothing here: just us and the cats. No furniture, no personal belongings, just the things we’ll travel with on the plane and live with for the next few months while everything else makes its way across the ocean.

Today will be spent doing last-minute cleaning, packing, and selling our car. Tomorrow, we hit the road with the cats in tow for Atlanta. Wednesday, we fly. Early Thursday morning, we land in Dublin.

We have a rental for the first couple of nights so the cats can have a soft landing. And on Friday we get the keys!

It’s hard to believe we’re here. So much planning, paperwork, packing, selling, waiting, and flying the seat of our pants. It is wild that this is finally happening.

We can’t wait to step into a little piece of Glangevlin history and begin building our future there. We are most excited to experience the community and become a small part of it.
