Day 109
For right now we’ve forgotten about how many days Damian has been rowing for and how far he has travelled. Today we get the chance to look ahead. It’s a pleasant view because we don’t have to look very far ahead.
Damian has been patiently waiting for the wind to drop. We had a brief conversation about what the plan was regarding the land which was getting closer and closer as the wind continued to push Damian towards east towards the Atlantic coastline. If the wind didn’t follow the forecast and didn’t reduce in speed what would Damian do? Option 1 - arrange a tow, Option 2 – anchor in Brandon Bay and wait for better weather, Option 3 – row north as soon as possible and hope things change. Damian quickly set me right by confirming my thoughts that he wouldn’t be accepting a tow and that Option 3 was the best course of action for now.
Thankfully the weather did follow the forecast and even more favourably than anticipated and by 17:00 it seemed that he had been able to start making some progress towards Galway. With some acceptable winds forecast on Sunday and very favourable winds forecast for Monday things are starting to look up.
At the time of writing Damian Browne now has under 72nm remaining. It won’t be long.
