TRIBUTE TO OUR BELOVED SWEET MUM

Our great ancestors have left us a wonderful adage that says, “Wo ni wu a, w’abusua asa.” (“The departure of one’s mother to eternity terminates one’s blood relationships on earth.”). Your passing away leaves us homeless. We thank the Good Lord for giving you to us for over 50 years as our mother. You have indeed been our all. You did not only give us life; you gave us life that is worth living. You brought us up in the acceptable traditions of our forefathers. You gave us the best of humanity to make us what we are today. You were a beacon of wisdom to us. You loved us all, and you did everything for us, except condone evil in our lives. You were a disciplinarian to the core. You were the mother with whom we conferred. The members of our great clan and others always looked up to you. You were Agya on whom we wholly depended. You were a “killer of hunger” for us and many others, our saviour, the slender arm full of kindness. You taught us the value of hard work. How can we thank you enough for preparing us for who we are today. As your children, you continued to provide for us the pool of wisdom to drink from. You were with us in our moments of joy and fulfilment and moments of sorrow and frustration. Ɔbaatan Pa, you will always use your last pesewas to make sure there is food and shelter for your children, you have done what you can for us and others. Maame as we affectionately call you, the whole of Atobiase joins us in mourning the passing away of our great pillar. We have lost that which cannot be replaced. we have lost the mother who gave us life, our fountain of advice and counsel and the anchor of our very existence. You were the centre of our life. We owe everything we have achieved in life to you, to the unbounded love that you always showed to us and to the gentle tutoring that we received from you. You have been the example that has guided us and the beacon by which we have steered through life. You were not just our mother; you were also a mother to many others. With your passing away, many have lost a mother and a worthy example. To us you are irreplaceable. You have been our ladder and our guide; the mother of mothers. Without you, life will never be the same again for us. “Egyawom, Mansa, Maame” as how we individually choose to call you, will forever remain unique to us. You made us proud by the example you set, and you gave us confidence by your very presence. It gave us immense pleasure to observe the very easy relationship that you struck with all people. You instilled in us true discipline and taught us to show respect to everyone, regardless of their status in life. We shall miss you every day of our life. You were human, is not everyone who loved you, but to us, you remained special in many ways. As a source of advice and counsel, you were incomparable. As a loving mother, you were unmatched. You have been the dependable pillar of strength on whom we have been able to rely on all our life. You have been there for us in the most difficult situations of our life. I particularly recall how you toiled to see me through my education and where I am now. I am forever grateful to you Maa. You nurtured us to where we are now, and it was our duty now to look after and care for you, but death has taken you suddenly away from us. Maa, you had always wished to carry and pamper my child, but you choose to leave at this moment. You were always eager to find out how we are doing. You enjoyed talking to us and seeing us around you. Now we must navigate through life without your guidance and support and without your abundant love. we frankly do not know how we can do it, but we promise to do it because of the memory of your love for us and in recognition of the wonderful example that you have set by your life. We are exceedingly grateful for the long life that God granted you and for the many good deeds you were permitted to do, for us and for many others. We shall never forget what you represented and all that you did for us and for your family. We also thank you for the motherly love that you gave to us and others, all of whom you looked after as your uterine children. We hereby give this vow: we shall remain true to your advice; and we shall forever remember and live by your words of wisdom. We shall also love you for the rest of our life; and we shall neither forget nor ignore your many words of advice and the example of your life. Nor shall we ever forget what you have been to us and the family. We shall always remember and live by your wise advice and helpful warnings. Ena Pa, Rest in Peace. May you have the peaceful repose that you have earned. We thank you for your many good works, For your shining example and for your words of wisdom to us and many others. Maame, Mansa, Egyawom, Nante Yie Damirifa due, Nyame nfa wokra nsie.
