Sometimes life just seems perfect...

“If I do this gig again, please may I have the same rhythm section?” — Alan Barnes

There was incredible chemistry between the wonderful musicians who played for us on Wednesday night: classic repertoire, from sultry bossas to energetic swing. I enjoyed singing too.

“We are lucky to breathe the same air.” — audience member

A big thank you to Alan Barnes, Euan Stevenson (who stepped in at the last minute and simply starred on every tune), Rob Rickenberg and Steve Rushton.

The smiles really do show! x

Hearts warm, lips smile, and souls expand at every performance from this extraordinary guest musician: Alan Barnes.

An evening with Alan is a journey to a timeless place of stunning musicality, comforting humour, and companionship – a welcome escape from life’s trials and tribulations, if only for a little while.

Affectionately nicknamed “Honorary Crackpot” by the late, great Humphrey Lyttelton, Alan’s musical legacy is nothing short of legendary. With over 25 British Jazz Awards to his name, he is admired and respected by today’s jazz greats and has performed and recorded alongside household names like Björk, Bryan Ferry, Michel Legrand, Clare Teal, Westlife, and Jools Holland.

Despite his status as a masterful multi-instrumentalist, Alan remains one of the most down-to-earth and engaging musicians you’ll ever meet. Perhaps it’s his strong Northern roots, or perhaps it’s because when you’re as naturally gifted as Alan, ego becomes unnecessary – you simply play.

Whatever the secret to his charm, Alan’s performances radiate warmth and joy, and we hope you’ll join us for an evening of incredible music, camaraderie, and fun.

Personally, I can’t wait for this gig on Wednesday night!

Something different, unique and exciting on the TJC stage this time.

This live show is spellbinding, incorporating instrumental virtuosity and three-part vocal harmony, which adds a unique dimension to the sound — creating an uplifting take on infectious rhythms from Brazil and Cuba for the audience.

Neil Angilley Trio have released five albums — Yambou, Live at the 606, The Lake District, Havana Club and Chango.

The trio works regularly on the London jazz scene and across the UK, performing at prestigious venues including Ronnie Scott’s, The Stables and the 606 Club. During a recent tour in Italy, they appeared at the ‘Trieste Loves Jazz’ International Jazz Festival.

As an original member of Grammy-nominated band Down To The Bone, Neil has co-written and played on many of their No. 1 albums, most recently The Sweetness, which charted at No. 1 in the US Billboard Jazz/Funk charts. Neil has also appeared as a guest soloist on various albums, including An Ordinary Day in an Unusual Place (US3), Fuzzy Logic (David Benoit, GRP) and Crush (Richard Elliot, Verve).

As well as appearing on the main stage at Glastonbury with Dame Shirley Bassey, Neil has also performed with Vanessa-Mae, Maceo Parker, Lionel Richie, Lisa Stansfield and Three Friends (Gentle Giant), among many others.

“The crowd were captivated by the Neil Angilley Trio’s authentic Brazilian rhythms on top of rich vocal harmonies, segueing into staggering solo and group passages of virtuosity. Sensational.” — Ronnie Scott’s

★★★★★ Havana Club — “Album of the Week” — The Evening Standard

Chango — Voted Top Latin Album of the Year. “Chango will smite you…” — Mundo Latino

“Inventive.” — Observer
“Lyrical… impressively fluid.” — The Times
“Rhapsodic… with shrewd use of space and restraint.” — Guardian
