The beginning of the end…….!

Join Mouse and I for the first (yes I’m going to milk it) of our ‘leaving do’s’ here with us at The Red Lion on Saturday October 10th.

With no official sale date as yet, plans are being put in place for early November for us to hand over the reins so we’d like to kick off the parties with one to remember and we’d love for our regulars along with friends and family to come and join us. We have some fabulous live music from The Mysteries who are a unique acoustic pop/soup trio belting out hits in their own style from the likes of Prince, Elvis, Kylie, Plan B and Bruno Mars plus a lot more and then possibly the last DJ set from the one and only DJ Mouse!

We really want to thank our regulars and loyal customers who have supported us all these years as without you, we simply wouldn’t have survived so come along and party hard with us and enjoy pizzas on us which will be delivered from our friends in Wallingford at Pizza Cafe!

Thanks guys, let us know if you can make it, we really want you to be here and we look forward to seeing you all on the dance floor 🕺🕺,

August Bank Holiday Live Music

We are over the moon to welcome back The Night Herons, a four-piece band with lush vocals, playing original jazz, funk, folk and pop with 2 of its members being Brightwell's very own!

Join us tonight for simply the best way to finish up your lazy Sunday by sitting back and listening to some fab music or perhaps even get up for a dance or 2! Being a BH weekend we will of course have a bumper meat draw so be sure to arrive earlier to get your tickets before the draw at 6pm. The band will start shortly after and I promise you a great night!

Introducing Sue Cox (nee Whisstock), our newest artist of the month,

Sue Whisstock is a local author and keen watercolourist. Born in Suffolk, she has lived in Oxfordshire all her married life. A Wallingford resident and member of the WADAC she writes and paints full time since her retirement from teaching. Sue is a sociologist with a Masters in Creative Writing from Brunel University and we are delighted to not only show her work but to also have her novel Crosswinds which is inspired by her mother-in-law who served as a Wren in WW2.

My pictures really do not do Sue's work justice so please do pop in and take a look at her work and possibly pick yourself up a painting or 2 to brighten up your walls.

You can find Sue online at www.suewhisstock.com and her book is available from us and Wallingford book shop for just £6.50.

Road Closed (or not in fact closed) - Getting to the pub!

Please note that OCC or the contractors have very kindly put road closed signs all around the village due to Church Lane being closed during the daytime only. If you are visiting us and driving from the Didcot area, you will see road closed signs and diversions in place from the Donkey Sanctuary entrance. Please note the main road is NOT closed and full access is available. If you are coming into the village from Wallingford direction, you will notice road closed signs before you get to the pub, again please ignore these. The pub and village shop/post office have full access and the road signs are making it look like the main road through is closed but it isn't.

Thankfully these signs are turned round late afternoon so will not be a problem for evening visitors but I wanted to assure you on this occasion you can ignore the signs and drive through unless of course you want to drive up/down Church Lane where you can't and I'll be honest, unless you live in the village, you really do not need to drive down there. Hopefully that all makes sense and it will not put you off visiting us and fingers crossed they will be finished by Friday and before the people shout at me for telling people to ignore the signs (like last time) please please note it isn't closed and I'd never tell you to ignore them if it was. They are being a tad over informative and the signs are on roads that are not part of the works and a fair way before any closures.

Tables Tonight

Lunch @ The Red Lion and Jazz Jam

We are open today for lunch serving from 12-2.30pm. Although we are not serving roasts today we are serving our weekly lunch menu with choices such as b**r battered haddock, homemade steak & ale pies, salmon salad and much more. If you prefer a lighter bite such as a baguette or small plate, we also have you covered.

To book a table please call 01491 837373, we have plenty of space so feel free to just walk in and find a table if you prefer. We are not busy today so would love to see you and this much cooler Sunday 😎😎

If your busy at lunch but fancy joining us tonight, we have our monthly Jazz Jam this evening from 6pm and it really is lovely to sit and relax in our courtyard garden listening to some chilled tunes to finish your Sunday ☺️

Tables Tonight

Once again our kitchen is hotter than life itself 🥵🥵 so please note the kitchen will be closing early tonight. We are quiet so if you’ve not booked in and fancy some dinner with us, please be sure arrive no later than 7.30pm as the kitchen will close not long after.

We have plenty of space inside and out so pop along for drinks or food, we love to see you…..just a bit earlier than normal 🤣🤣

Kitchen Service Tonight.

Due to the extreme heat please note the kitchen will be closing at 8pm tonight with last tables at 7.30pm. If you are planning on dropping in without booking, you are more than welcome but please arrive early. Today is the hottest we have experienced in the kitchen 🥵🥵🥵 so please let us cook and get out of here 🤣🥵

Kitchen Update

Due to the rising temperatures today and tomorrow please note that ‘Cakes on the Bar’ will be cancelled this week. The kitchen temperatures are extremely high which makes working in it really uncomfortable and hard for baking.

With this in mind if you are planning on visiting us for lunch or dinner today or tomorrow please understand if the whole menu is not available. We will be offering a host of salads, a ploughman’s and much more but the menu will be done on the basis of keeping my staff and myself safe and well which I’m sure you all understand.
