🏏 Social Cricket Update 🏏

We’ve had some fantastic feedback from our social cricket sessions, and it’s great to hear that everyone who has joined us is still having fun, enjoying the sessions and meeting new people!

There’s still plenty of time to get involved, with our sessions running until 15th October! 🏏

Whether you’ve always fancied giving cricket a go, you’re looking to try something new, or you’re hoping to relight an old passion for the game, everyone is welcome.

And the best part? It’s completely free so why not come along and give it a try.

Congratulations Vicki and Jas Norton & Stockton Ancients FC Ladies

This evening saw two of our volunteers shortlisted at the Durham County FA Grassroots Football Awards.

Vicki Burton, who is head of women and girls’ football at Norton and manages the Under 14 Ambers, was chosen as the winner of the Lioness Award, for her commitment and dedication to growing the female game at our club.

Meanwhile, 16 year old Jas Salmon continued what has been an excellent 12 months of football for her personally, as she became runner-up in the Young Volunteer of the Year category. As well as captaining the Under 18s side, Jas plays for the ladies and coaches at our Wildcats group, showing what a true grassroots pathway looks like. Jas’ hard work has also recently secured her a coaching apprenticeship at Middlesbrough FC Foundation.

✨ A Huge Thank You to Our Wonderful Volunteers! ✨

We’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who joined us for another fantastic volunteering day and helped us give our forest and the forest shelter some much-needed care and attention.

A big thank you to Action Asylum from Refugee Futures for their continued support, regular visits and commitment to helping us care for our site. We really appreciate you coming back time and time again, working incredibly hard and helping us with so many different jobs.

A huge thank you also goes to M&S Bank for joining us and working so hard with sprucing up our picnic benches, planters and bird hide.

Today everyone helped us:
✅ Clear away chopped trees
✅ Clean down and repaint our picnic benches
✅ Weeding and painting the bird hide
✅ Identify trees that were lost during the drought, helping us plan for future replanting
✅ Weeding and leaf removal of the forest shelter pathway
✅ Repainting the planters

It was a brilliant day of teamwork, and the difference you have all made is fantastic to see. Thank you to both teams for giving your time and helping us look after our grounds.

Thank you to everyone who has already donated books or picked up a “new to you” read from our Community Bookshelf at Tesco!

We can see that lots of books have already flown off the shelves, and even more are being donated each day — which is fantastic and really helps support us.

There’s still plenty of time to support us throughout the rest of September, so if you’re looking for your next great read, why not pop along and see what our Community Bookshelf has to offer?

🏑 Get involved with Norton Hockey Club!

Norton Hockey Club is welcoming new players for the 2026/27 season, with opportunities for men, women and junior players of all abilities.

Junior training begins this week:

📅 Under-10s and Under-14s
Wednesday 16 September, 6pm–7pm

📅 Under-8s
Sunday 20 September, 10am–11am

Whether you are an experienced player, returning to hockey or looking to try the sport for the first time, Norton Hockey Club would love to hear from you.
