It’s that time again. Pub Quiz next Thursday. Whilst the theme seems a bit dull for us, it’ll obviously have the usual high jinks you’ve come to know… and fear! As usual it’s at 8PM, up to 8 people per team and £2 per person. Booking not essential unless you’re looking for a specific area to sit.

This man hits the mark on a daily basis. It’s great when someone has the words to articulate the struggle of running a hospitality business.

Right.
Apparently, pubs are “too expensive.” 😬🥵💰

I hear it every day. 🤯

Usually from someone clutching a £6 artisan coffee, scrolling TikTok on a £1,200 phone, while explaining how £6 for a pint is daylight robbery. 💎

But sure. The pub is the problem. 👌

Let me explain this slowly…

You’re not paying £6 for “beer”! 🍺

You’re paying for an experience, for a community, for…

💸 The heating being on before you arrive.
💸 The lights staying on after you leave.
💸 The loos being scrubbed (you’re welcome).
💸 The glasses being washed.
💸 The staff being paid.
💸 The licences. The insurance. The rates. The tax.
💸 The little bite the card machine takes every single time you tap.
💸 And the fact that when the cellar floods at 11pm on a Tuesday… it’s me in wellies.

You’re not just buying a drink. 🍷

You’re renting a space to exist in public without being moved on. To socialise. To make friends. To feel welcome. To belong. ❤️

Go and sit in the middle of ASDA for three hours debating VAR and see how long that lasts. Try getting banter from a self-checkout. 😅

Pubs aren’t competing with supermarket booze. 🛒

We’re competing with the idea that community should be free. 🏘️❤️

And here’s the bit I find fascinating…

The same people who mourn “the death of the British pub” are the ones who treat us like overpriced off-licences. 🍾

We don’t sell beer. 🍺

We sell:
👉 First dates that turned into marriages.
👉 Wakes where the real stories came out.
👉 “Ok, just one” that became the best night of the year.
👉 Somewhere to decompress when the world’s had enough of you and you’ve had enough of the world.

We sell a place to not be alone. 🫂

If you want cheap: stay on your sofa with a four-pack of lukewarm cans 🛋️🥵🍻

But PLEASE don’t confuse low cost with value! 🤷‍♂️

Anyway, I’ll be over here - overcharging for heating, chairs, and human interaction. 🔥🪑🤗

We’re please to announce a new partnership with Bedford Coffee Roasters at the pub. Come down to enjoy a great cup of conscientious coffee, that tastes good and provides a fair living to its farmers. Not only that but we have our own roast especially for us.

Our dearest Sally has reached an age where she can retire happily and enjoy the pub from a customer’s perspective (NOT JEALOUS!) which means we’re now on the lookout for a chef to join the team.

You’ll be one of 3 chefs in the team. Some days you’ll work by yourself, sometimes you be working with other chefs and KPs. Position, wage, number of days and hours can be negotiable. We just need someone with experience, able to work independently and a strong work and team ethic, just as Sally had for us. Enjoy your retirement Sally!

🍺 Pint in the garden? Yes please!

It’s so HOT 🥵 make sure (even if you’re not at the pub) to drink plenty of water and use sunscreen. 💧

🐶 We have puppy hydration stations in the pub but don’t forget to take water out with you when you’re with the pooches 🐶

🍲 If the food in the sun is too much we serve food until 9PM. Call the pub to reserve a table.

Good Morning all. We had a busy quiz last night, thanks to all who came. Look at how beautiful our flowers are. Just waiting for that summer weather ☀️ Karen Aves and SJ have done a fantastic job of the front and back garden.

Next Thursday is that time. The infamous monthly pub quiz, this time it’s TV, Music and Movie through the decades. Starts at 8PM, £2 per person, teams of up to 8. If we start on time it’s usually over by 10PM. See you there for the madness.
