The accidentally incredible journey

The accidentally incredible journey Penny Gaskell has accidentally signed herself up for a 630 mile incredible journey from Minehead to Sandbanks - the long way around! Thank you!

Penny Gaskell has accidentally signed herself up to walk the entire length of the South West Coast Path - of 630 miles! Penny was at the inaugral fundraising dinner for retired England rugby captain Lewis Moody, where she was asked to undertake a challenge to raise some money for his charity, the Lewis Moody Foundation. She decided that she'd walk the South West Coast path - a lovely walk around t

he coast, with the bonus of making a bit of money for the charity. Unfortunately this is actually a 630 mile trip (the overlooking of this was, of course, nothing to do with the wine at dinner!). Despite this being around 6,300,000 steps, Penny is bravely going ahead with the challenge in the hope of raising money for two amazing charities. The first is the Lewis Moody Foundation, which organises days out and one-off experiences for children with serious illnesses, as well as funding scientific research through The Brain Tumour Charity. The second is Sarcoma UK, in memory of her sister Lesley, a charity who provide support with this rare cancer, as well as funding research. As you have probably gathered, this is a huge challenge and there will certainly be blood, sweat, tears (and plenty of chocolate) along the way. If you are able to offer your support either through kind words, supporting these wonderful charities or sending chocolate, Penny would be very grateful.

The Accidentally Incredible Journey is complete. In walking the whole of the Southwest Coast path, the longest National Trail in the UK I have :
- walked 630 miles
- climbed the equivalent of 4 times the height of Mount Everest
- crossed over 288 bridges
- passed over 3500 coast path signs

and walked through :
- 17 Heritage Coasts
- 5 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty
- 2 World Heritage Sites
- a UNESCO designated Biosphere reserve
- a Geopark
- a National Park
and a number of National Nature Reserves.

The money raised will help 2 very hardworking and deserving charities and WILL make a difference.

Thank you! Penny x

Penny finished her epic 630 mile walk this afternoon in the lovely Sandbanks sunshine - well done Penny! She was very happy to have finished and celebrated with a well-deserved cream tea. Thank you very much to everyone who has donated to the charities - when gift aid is taken into account, she has raised almost £2000, twice her original target! I know that it'll be put to good use by The Lewis Moody Foundation and Sarcoma UK. Thanks again everyone!
