Ceroc is now the biggest partner dance club in the world and has been teaching people to dance, of all ages and from all walks of life, for over 30 years. Ceroc is a very simple form of partner dancing – it’s a little bit like Salsa in look but without the complicated footwork and also incorporates elements of Jive, Tango and Ballroom. It’s very easy to learn and great fun to do and is a great social night out. There’s no need to bring a partner as we partner people up at the beginning of the class and then rotate partners every few minutes – so you’ll get to meet lots of new people. At Ceroc our dancers come from all walks of life and we have people as young as 18 and as old as 80 learning to dance, but probably the average age range is 25-55. We’re putting together a thought piece about the psychology of being a beginner, and we’d love your input.

Starting something new as an adult can feel surprisingly daunting. There’s the fear of looking silly, not being good enough, walking into a room where everyone seems to know what they’re doing, or simply not knowing what to expect.

Thinking back to when you first started Ceroc, what was the biggest barrier in your own head before you walked through the door? And was the reality anything like you imagined?

WHY HOBBIES MATTER 🧡

Somewhere along the way, we started trying to optimise everything.

Exercise became training.
Food became nutrition.
Sleep became data.
Even our downtime became something to measure.

But sometimes, doing something simply because you enjoy it is reason enough.

That’s one of the things we love about Ceroc. It’s movement, music, laughter, learning, friendship and a couple of hours where you don’t have to achieve anything other than having a good time.

Adult hobbies matter. Play matters. Community matters.
