Some of you may know that we have a music rehearsal and song writing space tucked behind the pub at the end of Foundry Road.

In association with the Warden and Freemen of Malmesbury we are delighted to have been offered funding to secure eight 3-hour creative sessions for under 18s. To apply please email us up to 300 words as to why you and/or your band would like an opportunity to use our dedicated creative band practice space! This is for young people in Malmesbury (and neighbouring villages) aged 21 and under. Please note depending on the age a parent may need to accompany. Also depending on take-up we may offer some spaces to 21-25 year olds.

📚 Yes! A SCRABBLE TOURNAMENT! We have a bit of an underground scrabble scene going on at The Cups and along with following a mandatory chat over the bar, we have decided to create a tournament for all you Scrabble geeks.

November 14th is the night from 5pm with a break for food included.

Join us for 4 rounds of scrabble where we will add up the scores and see who gets crowned The Cups Scrabble Champ of the year!

£20 entitles you to participate and includes food at half time too.

There is a cash prize for £50 for the winner and the rest of the proceeds goes towards Malmesbury Animal Sanctuary CIC .

The Burning Glass this THURSDAY (yes we know the weekend is starting early this week) and what a gig to get our Autumn under way. Come and join us for a brilliant night of music and good company. Pizzas served and wonderful musical souls in the building!

The Burning Glass The band brings together musicians from classical, jazz and folk backgrounds using tuned percussion, synths, strings and drums to tell stories of humour, love and grief. The live show is as equally well placed in a seated intimate setting as it is headlining festival stages with infectious rhythm and energy. Over the last decade the band have built a cult following UK festival circuit. Online copies of their two full length albums continue to sell internationally and they are building a following from as far afield as the US, Canada, Japan and South Africa. They have been featured on BBC 6 music, BBC introducing, playlists and online radio.

Tonight’s Album Club choice is Secret love by Dry Cleaning, courtesy of Jaana.

Dry Cleaning formed in South London in 2017 composed of vocalist Florence Shaw, guitarist Tom Dowse, bassist Lewis Maynard, and drummer Nick Buxton.

Secret Love is the band’s third studio album and was released on 9 January 2026. Musically, it sees the band continue to expand upon the post-punk style that defined their earlier work, and Florence Shaw’s otherwise spoken word delivery increasingly relying on sung vocals.

Its release was greeted by very positive reviews all round, possibly best summarised in the NME:“Secret Love is an accomplished, assured effort – like its predecessors, yes, but in a manner that subverts the expectations set up by them. By continuing to flip the script on what could have been one of the more one-note acts of the decade (on paper, at least), Dry Cleaning have simultaneously surprised and impressed in their artistic evolution. Even on the edge, the band are still finding new terrain to explore – and you imagine they’ll be at it for a while yet.”

Whether you’re new to the band or just the album, come and enjoy the cleanest rendition available in town at Album Club - the needle drops at 8.30 and there is an interval between sides. Open discussion at the end.

🍷🍻 A little bit of lunch, a cheeky glass of wine, company, games, cosy corners. It’s Autumn and time to connect with friends after the summer. We are looking forward to our bustling weekend nights with you all.
This weekend we’ll be running our pizza menu with a new 9” smaller version for just £10.

🤫 Quiet space:
Music is our passion and first love at The Cups but we appreciate its not for everyone so on a Friday and Saturday evening when things are livelier we will reserve the Snug between 5-7pm as a quiet very low music space.
