The 1st TAPS 30…….
Alcohol sometimes make you say and do things that you may come to regret, and so it was one evening in the Taps pub in 1999 “ anyone fancy riding Lands End to John O’ Groats ?”
In the cold light of day and with a few false starts and the backing of Whitbread and Travel Inn and of course Landlords June and Ian Rigg we completed the task and raised £22,000 for MACMILLAN Nurses.
As a thank you the following year we did a one off local ride which morphed into an annual ride, The Taps 30.
Twenty five years later we have raised in excess of £150,000.00 supporting the following charaties….
Live Like Ralf, Feeding Dreams in Cambodia, Cancer Research UK, Pear Tree School, NSPCC, Trinity Hospice, Victoria Hospital Dialysis Unit, Children’s Home in Cheshire, The Scouts, The Larygectomy Fund, Air Ambulance, Children in Need, Special Injuries Unit, RNLI, Special Olympics in support of Shelly Woods, Feet First, A specially adapted bicycle for Bret Smethhurst in conjunction with Kirkham Rotary, Diabetes U.K., Parkinson’s UK, Doddie Foundation and of course Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
We estimate over three thousand riders have completed this ride.
Our thanks go to them and all the helpers behind the event including the staff of The Taps and Steve and Helen Norris.
This years event is on Sunday June 7th.
Registration 9.30 for 10.30 depart.
