ID: Image of our venue, an Arch in Hackney. We can see some graphics on top of the photo- at the top it says ‘Got Gear? We Need you’ in pink capital letters. There are cut outs of different things, with a drawing effect. 2 speakers at the bottom with our logo in them. In the middle bottom it reads LONG LIVE Q***R SPACES - hand written in yelllow. In the middle there are DJ decks, a pile of chairs, and a glass washer. At the top below the title, 2 show lights.

Happy New Year and happy new keys 🔑

Whilst we’ve been a bit quiet on here, we’re working non-stop behind the scenes. At the end of last year we finally got the keys to our space in Bohemia Place!

We have a lot of work to do to fit out the venue and make it into a space that is welcoming for all!
Living Construction are on it and we will be updating you on any future progress ⚒️🪚

Keep your 👀 peeled for updates.

So excited to launch the outcomes of our JOIN Project research!
Building Inclusive Q***r Spaces: A Community Toolkit is a FREE publication packed with practical advice and concrete steps designed to end exclusion. It is written by and for q***r people facing marginalisation – and for q***r venues, service providers, charities and campaigning organisations that know they can do (so much) better!

The JOIN Podcast series features deep dives into how homelessness and insecure migration status shapes q***r lives. The series is produced and presented by people with lived experience of these issues with six episodes that explain how and why our community can build power and end exclusion – together!

You can find them both at the link in our bio!

Thanks so much to all the contributors, and our partners
As well as our Research Lead , toolkit illustration .s and design .co, and our podcast host and producer

Please read thru 🧡

Slide 1:
WE DIDN’T GET THE SPACE IN WALTHAM FOREST
>>>

Slide 2:
Thank you to everyone who supported our recent bid to Waltham Forest council for a space. We were not chosen by the council unfortunately. We’re waiting to receive formal feedback but we know there were many applicants.

Slide 3:
We particularly want to thank everyone who took the time to contact local councillors about our bid - we were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support.

Slide 4:
And we think it’s yet another indicator of the desperate passion from our community for new q***r spaces.
Our search continues!

Slide 5:
There is a lot going on BTS. We already have viewings set up, and we continue to assess both commercial and council-owned buildings, and we are working with the GLA.

Slide 6:
Our time will come…
We are so grateful for everyone’s support and
work to help find a space!

All slides have a blue background and text in white font. There is a pink band at the top left corner that reads JOIN PROJECT.

Slide 1:
The text reads: We Friends of the Joiners Arms aim to be radically inclusive... And know that’s more easily said than done! >>>

Slide 2:
The text reads: So we’re working with community partners to explore how we can help break down barriers that exclude people from LGBTIQ+ venues and spaces.
It features the logos of our community partners at the bottom: The Outside Project, African Rainbow Family, Micro Rainbow, Revoke, Mosaic LGBT+, and ours.

Slide 3:
The text reads: We want to hear your ideas, wisdom & dreams!
At the bottom, it features a drawing of two characters carrying a table together. One of them is wearing a pink head scarf, a yellow jumper with pink stars matching their pink trainers, and orange trousers to complete the look.
The other character seems younger, has short blonde hair and is wearing a red jumper.

Slide 4:
Text-only:
*What does “inclusive” mean to you?
*What does a supportive space feel like?
*What training, volunteer, job opportunities should it provide?

Slide 5:
The text reads:
We’d especially like to hear from LGBTIQ+ people who’ve experienced precarious housing and/or insecure immigration status.
Prioritising people who have been historically excluded from LGBTIQ+ spaces.

It features a drawing of two people of colour who are having coffee at a table. One is visually impaired and has a walking stick on the floor. They are wearing a pink dress with flowers, an orange and white headband, and cool heart-shaped sunglasses.
The character on the right is holding a mug with coffee, the foam making the shape of a heart. They have long black hair and wear a yellow top and jeans.
