Keep up to date with 'Speedquizzing' events being hosted by DJ Angus 'El Flaco' in and around London. What is SpeedQuizzing?

SpeedQuizzing is a software designed for Quiz nights to eliminate the need for pen and paper; and practically eliminates cheating. All teams need is one Smartphone or Tablet per team, download the free SpeedQuizzing app from their app store, then connect to the hosts local WIFI to play. Every Monday at 8pm at The Famous Cock-tail Bar, Islington. Every Thursday at 8pm at The Green, Shepherd’s Bush. Online quizzes take place at least once a month.

🚨Time for changes 🚨
From Sunday 10th May several things are happening in the world of FlacoSpeedQuizzing!
• We launch our brand new Sunday night quiz at The .islington from 7:30pm.
Details on how to book will be posted soon!
• Entry fees will increase to £3.50 per player but the loyalty cards will be usable at all 3 venues! It will still be every 5th quiz free (with me), and loyalty can still be accrued with any host!
• All bar tabs/gift cards for our quiz winners will increase from £50 to £60 at all venues!
• We will also be introducing a prize for 2nd place at all venues which will be a round of shots.
• ‘Big Quiz Event’ nights will increase from £4 to £4.50. These will be our Easter, Summer and Halloween quiz nights!
Don’t forget you can download the Mixr app to earn points and money off at our Monday, and new Sunday night, venues, and the Greene King app for rewards at our Thursday night venue!
There are some other ideas in the pipeline including our upcoming SpeedQuizzing Music Bingo event in June alongside our monthly Friday themed quizzes.
We’ll also be celebrating our 2nd Anniversary in Victoria on the 7th May!

Our easter quizzes proved to be very popular over the extended bank holiday weekend!
79 players participated in our Thursday quiz downstairs at The in .tform22 with many new faces picking the right night to play their first quiz.
The chocolate fountain was a huge success and despite the number of players, there was still enough at the end of the night for even the security guards at the venue to come and make use of.
Sadly, on Monday, due to circumstances beyond our control, the fountain had to be cancellled as the agent was unable to source and attendant at such short notice and had been trying up until 3pm on the day. By that point, I was in Costco purchasing chocolate muffins and coffee and walnut muffins, alone with boxes of creme eggs as a backup for our players in Islington at .famouscock in the downstairs bar.
These went down well as an alternative with the 41 players who turned up.
Thanks to everyone who came down!
A big thanks also to for the fountain on Thursday.
Our next ‘Big Quiz Events’ at both venues will be our summer quiz and that will take place in either June or July.
But there are other things happening before then including the launch of a new Sunday night venue in May which will be revealed this Sunday, as well as our 2nd anniversary at The Shakespeare.

Two weeks ago I covered Shaun on behalf of at The Chieftain in Welwyn Garden City at their biweekly quiz.
It had been nearly 5 years since I was last there.
33 players across 11 teams participated plus the bar staff dipped in and out during the night.
Players were victim of some of my curveballs although there was one question which everybody waited for the full question to be read out which was impressive!
It was a great night and worth the journey by train (since my car was playing up)!
Our winners were team of five ‘Fleetwood Maccas’ although one of their members had to leave early. They went home with the winners’ certificate and £50 bar tab.
2nd place went to duo ‘The Quizletts’ who went home with a bottle of wine.
3rd place won themselves 50 point voucher to start their next quiz with.
In the middle of the scoreboard were team ‘Windy Millers’ who won a bag of sweets. Unfortunately I didn’t have one, thinking there was one at the pub, so Shaun will be back tonight with their prize.
Last place win themselves a 20 point voucher and so that went to team duo ‘Better Call Saul’.

Our free monthly online quiz this month will take place on Friday 17th April at 8pm.
Our online quizzes are now often advertised on other platforms meaning we have a lot more teams and new faces.
You don’t have to have your camera on but from my perspective, it’s always nice to see who I’m talking to rather than black boxes. Plus, teams who have their cameras on for the majority of the quiz are eligible for two fast track opportunities in the final round.
Anyone can participate!
To join, simply have the SpeedQuizzing app downloaded on your phone or tablet (free to download from your App Store), and another laptop/computer/tablet to join the zoom call where the quiz will be hosted! You do not need to have a zoom account. Just click ‘join’ and enter the credentials to join the meeting.
The quiz pin for the app will be revealed in the zoom meeting. It’s the only time you ever need a pin to play!
Rounds will include our usual staples (keypad, music and buzzin’), plus Word Snake, 7Squares and Pinpoint.

Next week is the first of two 4-day working weeks for many of you with Easter Sunday on the 5th April.
This year, for the first time, our Easter quiz in Victoria at The on Thursday 2nd April will have its first ever chocolate fountain at the venue.
And then on Bank Holiday Monday 6th April, there’ll be a bigger fountain in our Islington venue at .famouscock!
These special events are branded as ‘Big Quiz Events’ and entry is £4 per person. Free entry on loyalty cards unfortunately cannot be redeemed at ‘Big Quiz Events’.
These are likely to be busy so booking is Flacommended!
Join us on Thursday downstairs at The Shakespeare in bar .tform22 at 8pm or on Monday 6th April downstairs in the cocktail bar at The Famous C**k, also at 8pm.

There have already been a couple of secret competitions which only 2 people have ever entered (and won), and there will be some more soon. But this one will be more apparent as it will be advertised on our socials!

We’re lucky to have kitchens that are open until 10pm at both of our SpeedQuizzing venues.
So if you’ve come to the quiz straight from work or haven’t had time to eat at home, there’s plenty of choice on the menu at the venue!
Some items are unavailable after 7pm at The Shakespeare such as toasted sandwiches.
And don’t forget to scan your mixr app when ordering downstairs at The Famous C**k.

The Covid-19 lockdown was a surreal time for us all!
Many people found themselves stuck indoors for most of the day trying to be productive or just getting through each day as it came. Others, including myself, had to commute into work in very eery environments and carry out our duties.
The one thing that many people, including myself, found kept us sane, were the online quizzes and late night Jackbox Games and chats into the early hours!
Great friends were made and we got to know a lot of our players in more depth!

Next Friday 13th March I’ll be back online hosting another SpeedQuizzing night with rounds including Word Snake, 7Squares, Multi tap and Pinpoint.
As always it’s free to play but donations are appreciated to cover the cost of the zoom subscription and software activation.
It all kicks off at 9pm. Zoom opens at 8:45pm

Did you know?
SpeedQuizzing are sponsors of York City FC.
On Saturday they played SpeedQuizzing to let supporters take part in a half time quiz inside the stadium.

Over 500 teams connected at once, with great feedback from those who took part!

Their main focus will always be face-to-face pub quizzes, prioritising strong interaction between hosts and players. However, this test indicates huge potential for the tech going forward.

Turning back the clock in this post.
When I first started hosting SpeedQuizzing events back in 2016, this is what the player’s app looked like.
The software was version 3 and the usual keypad and buzzin rounds existed but there were no scoreboard reveal, questions on devices or team photos features.
We’re now on version 5 and with rounds including ‘Word Snake’, ‘7Squares’ and the new ‘Pinpoint’, there is far more gameplay as well as features including audio questions, being able to upload music track buzzers, online compatibility, picture questions on devices and much more!
It’s a product I’m proud to host, alongside hundreds of other hosts and one that hundreds of thousands of people around the world love to play!
Thanks to the people at HQ, past and present, who made all this possible!
