We spend so much time packing duvets, saucepans, and extension leads that we forget to prepare our children for what actually matters: looking after themselves when weâre no longer in the room.
Beyond the physical checklist, here are the real essentials every teenager needs in their university toolkit:
đ´ Better Sleep: An old-fashioned alarm clock so their phone charges across the room, plus a sleep mask.
đł Real Fuel: 3 or 4 simple meals they can cook in bulk.
â Easy Connection: Extra mugs and a pack of cards to make starting a conversation in the kitchen or shared social space.
đśââď¸ Daily Movement: A waterproof coat and comfortable walking shoes.
â¤ď¸ Permission to Wobble: Reassurance that not every day has to be perfect, and that feeling homesick is completely normal.
We spend an enormous amount of time preparing the stuff PLEASE letâs spend a little more time preparing the person.
