“Oh the Good Life on Maple Road”
They’re counting off the days until the start of the new Thames Concerts season – a programme of stirring, beautiful music from brass to piano, jazz to classical, at St Andrew’s church, Maple Road.
Make a note; Sat Oct 5 is the first one, at 7.30pm, with the Kleio String Quartet playing a varied selection including Walton, Webern and Haydn.
The four girls – two violinists, a violist and a cellist – have already wowed audiences at Cadogan Hall, the Royal Festival Hall and Wigmore Hall. Now they’re right here in Surbiton.
It’s one of Surbiton’s most anticipated concert series, and has been since 1960 when it was launched. Down the years it has brought pleasure to thousands. It’s well worth supporting.
Artistic director Ben Costello, who lives near the church, was the man with the bright idea of introducing free concerts on Saturday mornings, linked to the farmers’ market in Maple Road, to showcase local young musicians. The first of those free events is on Sat Oct 19 at 10.30am.
Book in advance and there are 10% discounts for concert-day meals at Gordon Bennett!, Surbiton Flyer & ExCellar.
