Tesco have banned compostable and biodegradable plastics altogether. This is in support of Tesco’s ongoing efforts to reduce single use packaging.

This aligns with our own philosophy; compostable and biodegradable plastics are not good for humans or the environment! Being able to reuse and then recycle packaging is paramount to negating the effects of climate change and preventing further pollution of the environment.

Our customers often ask “why don’t you have any biodegradable” options. They perceive this as a failing or a bad thing. When we explain that we have made a conscious decision to avoid this solution due to the adverse environmental impacts – they are very surprised.

One of our direct competitors boldly claim that their products are biodegradable, however on closer inspection 5% of the product does not biodegrade, meaning that you are actively placing these products into a compost heap, 5% of which will never decompose. If it's not 100% biodegradable, choosing this option is possibly the worst of all options, as you are actively polluting our environment.

We wanted to share the basic reasoning openly with everyone and are very keen to hear other viewpoints.
