"I'm sure I can pull the sword from the stone, I'm worthy!"

Said the evil undead General who had surrounded the reappearance of the legendary King of the King of Avalon.

Dragon Rampant, 28mm and with Morgana Le Fey laying waste to the Kingdom, crushing all before her the land had had enough. Arthur was needed. Rumours of the sword arrived to all the factions and they descended on it, through hope, greed or fear. As it was it looked like the Woodland alliance would get there first but they were rudely halted by the Black Knight on the bridge, who would not let anyone pass. Meanwhile, the undead surged forward, through the river and into the lake, where the minions started to disappear one by one underwater, never to be seen again. He didn't care. Morgana sent Mordred and his knights ahead, Mordred crossing the river but the knights were attacked by the Grinch and forced back into the by now raging torrent and suffered grievous losses. Wild Haggis attacked the woodland folk but were (eventually) repelled, Morgana's infantry broke under evil war beasts at the mere sight and then Arthur appeared in the lake, with Merlin at the shore. This sent Mordred into a frenzy and he attacked brutally, wounding the King badly enough that Lancelot appeared from the woods and charged forward like a man possessed. Summoning his last strength, Arthur pulled the sword from the stone, leading Morgana to run away, the Woodland folk stood in stunned silence, then cheered. The undead collapsed into the ground and the forces of Darkness retired to the pub after a bloody good battle. Merlin and Lancelot have taken Arthur to recover, but where?

Meanwhile, the Silver Bayonet gang were discovering how effective a Blunderbuss can be against evil...

Gladiatorial combat with Blood on the Sands and then Wings of War - The Martian invasion!.

Bart turned up late so he got to be the Red Planet invaders alongside Tim doing his evil overlord vibe. The Unified Earth Pilots charged straight in, ignoring anything like tactics, ideas or even thought. In line abreast they flew past the invaders, leaving the targets undefended....

Bart normally flies the all white aircraft of Hermann Goering but this time Jimmy flew it thinking that Bart would be reluctant to shoot 'his' plane down. Oh no. The final act of the game was the vaporisation of Jimmy in an extremely calculated and clinical move. He can be ruthless at times....

B17 shenanigans with the 15mm crew recreating Masters of the air and Dave not enjoying being tail end Charlie as he got all the enemy fighters chasing him.

Warhammer with Susan being very defensive for once - I thought it might be a horns of the buffalo approach but nope.

Finally Risk Legacy with young Al's despotism continuing unabated. It seems he is destined to found a new line of Emperors to rule Earth forever.

Many thanks to all who donated to the Royal Navy Club, the crisis is now behind us.

PLEASE NOTE THE NEXT CLUB GAME WILL BE JANUARY 7TH, THE FIRST THURSDAY OF THE YEAR.

THIS IS THE FINAL POST ON THIS FACEBOOK PAGE, WE ARE MOVING TO OUR NEW PAGE WHICH CAN BE FOUND South East Scotland Wargames Club (SESWC) V2.1

"Who puts a pit right behind a closed door?"

Moaned our resident dwarf player. To be fair it was an unusual place in modern terms but we were playing Heroquest, which has been around since the 80's and is utterly unashamedly old school so for the older gamers it was just another Thursday.

We had to locate an amulet in what appeared to be a zombie petting zoo, they were even stuffed into treasure chests and variety was kept by the occasionally Mummy and skeleton. The good guys prevailed, stealing everything they could and leaving a trail of destruction that only the RPGer's could match.

Next up was Guns of August, in 6mm. Der Michaels pet project and this time WW1 involved the French landing in Russia, the Yanks and British capturing a German city and mass slaughter as you would expect from WW1. Comms were limited and orders misunderstood so it really captured the flavour of the period.

Board games, Wings of Glory in which Alisdair's tactics of random flying didn't work as he was the only target, Bloody Big Battles, Monsterapocolypse and the Silver Bayonet.

On the private members page there are three documents posted relating to the AGM, I urge all members to go there and read them as it does affect you.

IMPORTANT! The next Sunday game has been changed to 23rd November as there is another event this weekend.

The RN club is facing a financial shortfall for the immediate short term. If you can spare any cash to help out at all please donate here otherwise there is a real possibility that it will shut permanently and we will be homeless. Otherwise, give cash to a committee member if you prefer.

All contributions welcome.

"I thought it was all metric?"

Honours of War, 28mm. There was a bit of confusion over what measurements were being used as people discussed in inches but measured in filthy metric. As it was the SYW looked as ever fantastic even if Alasdair's horse were getting pummelled. (Incidentally huge congratulations' to Al as he's just become a grandfather for the first time and we fully expect to see a new recruit to the club in a few years time).

Next up was Fire and Sword, 17th century Poland and I believe this was a refight of an actual battle which lasted all of 20 minutes.

Tiny Nappies, Sword and Spear, with Early Imperial Romans failing nearly all their activations and the barbarians wiping them out. Glorious and as it should be.

Next up was more Not-LEGO shenanigans with even more spacecraft built by George, although I did query why there was no Lego explosions but I believe he may be working on it...

Imperial Assault and for some reason the Rebel Alliance decided to send us to help out Luke. We came across him pinned down so promptly rescued him. He showed his gratitude by abandoning us to Darth Vader! Git.

Bolt Action and Dune to finish off.

"It's a knife fight in a telephone box. And we've just killed Han Solo"

"Did we mean to kill him this time, or was it like the other times we don't talk about?"

Simon had bought 'Voidfighter', Osprey's latest spaceship game and he'd made up the stats to reflect some of the ships from his X wing collection. Stuart (back after a long absence) and myself vs David who was the Rebel scum. We decided to do the Horns of the Buffalo tactic with my slow bombers and shuttle being the centre. The Rebels responded by hitting full power, as did we. It descended into a furball, with the Empire torpedoing the Millennium Falcon in one shot and it looked like the Academy pilots in their TIE fighters might just survive. It was not to be, the Rebels slowly whittled our numerical advantage away and blew up the shuttle, leaving one lonely TIE pilot left, but at a heavy cost to the Rebels.

Lia's gonna be mad....

It's a fun and simple system that allows for many ship types. We will be playing it again.

Next up was air war in the Pacific, followed by more Battlemech alike in the form of Monsterpocalypse.

Two battles of Middle Earth, with Humans winning both of them in tightly fought games.

Multiple board games. As it was the night before Halloween Alisdair had brought in his annual Cthulhu game in which Jimmy got eaten and various players were driven insane.

Then what I initially though was Kingmaker but was The War of the Roses. Dragonquest and Bloody Big Battles, followed by Bolt Action on the Eastern Front.

Warhammer fantasy to end with.

"That's a Claymore worthy table" mentioned one of the committee.

Bolt action, WW2. And it really was magnificent. The British were attacking a heavily defended town and wherever you looked on the table something was happening. As it was it looked like the Allies were really struggling against the well emplaced Germans. I have no doubt Bart's blog will have a more detailed report to follow.

Next up was Honours of War with the inevitable charging into the enemy head on to avoid being shot to bits. 28mm SYW on a 6x4 is possible as Peter and Mike seem to be able to pull it off every single time.

WW1, 15mm Prussians and then what I thought was Battletech ("nope, that's on the next table") but turned out to be Monsterpocalype which seems ... similar.

Actual Battletech (Alphastrike) was at the next table, followed by the Silver Bayonet and two games of Middle Earth as the tournament continues. Can anyone stop Medic Mike?

Dragon Rampant and the Avalon campaign continues and the race to get Grimoires from the magic libraries was on. Alistair won the cool points for riding his cavalry into the library and impaling the books on his lances but ultimately Morgana gained the most, helped by the dwarven crossbows plinking the skeletons out of existence and leaving Morgana's troops to scoop up yet more ancient books. Angry spectral librarians made life difficult for both the living and the dead and the cry echoing around the land is "Where is Arthur?"

Finally Dune, the newer version, not the eighties classic.

AGM is at the end of November, if you have any motions to put forward please do so asap.

"I saw this and my arm moved out and grabbed it of its own accord"

George managed to find a unicorn here in the UK. Snap Ships! Basically a Lego knock off that you then can game with! The ships look brilliant and are surprisingly large but everyone had a blast playing them. Fantastic combo.

Next up was Middle Earth with two bunches of Men (west and south I think?, possibly East) were at it hammer and tongs. Imperial Assault and this time we had to rescue Han (readers may remember we have managed to get him killed twice) and it was a hard fought and frantic battle but we got him out alive. A pity we failed to stop the upload of every single Rebel Agent to the Empire in a data transfer though. Might miss that report out on the mission debrief.

Lion Rampant V2, Cruel Seas (with two boats ramming an island this game, sinking one) but the German pilot was rescued and that was all that counted.

Bolt Action in the desert, or Italy with a hard fought action, followed by Tiny Nappies, board games and more Bolt Action, this time on the Eastern Front.

Sometimes life does not go your way. Suzanne had an easy fight, with the Sphinx thing needing 2+ to hit. Every single dice rolled a one and I think every single member of the club came to have a look. As it was, she recovered (she must have used up all her bad luck in a oner) to come back against the elves.

Fantasy continued with Dragon Rampant. and a Chat GBT scenario. A half moon (the most magical phase) @ equinox and the armies of Albion descended upon the Standing Stones for dawn. What followed was simply hilarious, with the woodland folks (aided by long dead warriors of Avalon) taking the centre quickly while Morgana Le Fey and Mordred dilly dallied and the undead plodded forwards. Mordred eventually got into the stone circle and routed in turn, heavy knights and a Vampire, frankly it seemed his spear was in fact The Spear of Destiny, only to be routed by wights. Meantime, ley lines crackled green with energy, hideous howls came from within the giant skull in the middle, mists appeared, reducing vision but eventually Morgana was victorious, gaining a mystical weapon she will give her unstoppable son for the next game. But still no sign of Merlin or Arthur....

Other games include Heroclicks(?) with Al hiding behind a castle wall from some nightmarish ... things... of Calum's. Nemesis was back with 5 players but it is impossible to tell who is winning until the very end, but treachery abounded.

Middle Earth, with Alistair's Sauron up against David, who wisely avoided the big guy to mash everything small, and mortal.

Silver Bayonet, Dune, 6mm WW1 on the Italian front, Heroquest (ahh the nostalgia just looking at the book art) and finally Volley and Bayonet with the French getting a kicking from the Austrians, though to be fair Jim's Frenchmen were holding the riverbank firmly when I saw it.
