Just wanted to give everyone a random little collection of photos from recently and a short update:

Today marks exactly halfway through my time in Zambia. It’s absolutely crazy that this much time has flown by already but I’ve loved it and I’m excited for what the second half is gonna bring.

The past 6 months have been a rollercoaster and I’ve come across lots of challenges I didn’t expect (and lots that I did) but I wouldn’t change it for the world, and like I’ve said before coming to Zambia was the best decision I’ve ever made.

This term has been crazy busy so far!! I have twice as many periods to teach as I did last term, and I have 4 classes: one grade 8 Integrated Science class, two grade 10 Biology classes, and one grade 11 Biology class. My classes all did so well in their mid-term exams, they’re really happy with their results and I’m so proud of them. I’ve been doing Spanish classes after school with the girls too: juniors on a Tuesday and seniors on a Thursday, and it’s been really fun and a nice break between science teaching as it’s an opportunity to use different teaching styles. I absolutely love all of my classes and the girls are amazing, really bubbly, clever and hardworking. I’ve also been doing a ‘girl talk’ project during evening prep (18.30-20.30, in Zambia everybody uses 24 hour time) where the girls can anonymously ask questions about relationships, puberty, s*x, or anything else that they’d be too embarrassed to ask otherwise.

Katete is my home, and I already know that I’m gonna miss it more than anything when it comes round to leaving, and so knowing that we’re halfway through already is actually pretty sad.

Tonight Ella and I made a Zambian meal for dinner to mark our halfway day- we had nshima with beef sausage, peppers, onion, and tomato relish and some leaves with tomato and onion (no idea what kind of leaves) on the side. May not sound that good to you, but we loved it😂 we have nshima almost every day now, especially since we’re now good at making it ourselves.

Here’s to the next 6 months🍻

Hi everyone!

Firstly, I want to apologise for the fact that it has taken me SO long to get round to posting this- life has been really hectic the last 3 months. It’s hard to believe that my first term teaching at Katete Girls is already over, it’s flown in! This term was the final term of the Zambian school year, and I taught 3 classes- grade 11 biology, grade 10 chemistry, and grade 8 integrated science. My biggest class had 54 girls in it (grade 10). Being called Madam Boyd is definitely strange- teaching has had its challenges but I still absolutely love it: the girls at Katete girls are some of the bubbliest, funniest, and most hardworking girls I’ve ever met and I can’t wait to get to know them all even better over the next 2 terms.

I am loving life in Zambia and Katete really feels like home now. Settling in was tough and there have definitely been highs and lows but there is nowhere else I’d rather be and nothing else I’d rather be doing. I’ve had so many new experiences and made so many memories already and I’m even more excited for the next 9 months. I will definitely try my best to be better at keeping you all updated next term, especially since I’ll be settled in this time around.

Now that schools have finished for the holidays, we’re taking this opportunity to do some traveling through Botswana and Namibia and then South Africa for Christmas and New year before we come back for term 1 in January.

I’ll post with more detail soon- but for now here’s some photos from the last 3 months!!
I also want to take this chance to say thank you all for your amazing support throughout my fundraising- I wouldn’t be here in Zambia if it wasn’t for all of you, so thank you so much!!💖

I would just like to take the time to say a huge thank you to all of you for supporting me throughout this last 8 months of fundraising- at times reaching £6,200 seemed impossible but we finally made it!

I can’t thank you enough for all your help and support, and I’m excited to say that I leave for London tomorrow before flying to Dubai and then Zambia on Thursday night/ Friday morning!!🤗🇿🇲

Hi everyone!
We’re in the home stretch of fundraising, with just over £5200 raised so far. I leave for Zambia in just over a week, and so for my final fundraiser I will be holding a raffle for some amazing prizes that were kindly donated by Larne FC- this includes a full season ticket (worth £150), a signed ball from the men’s first team, a signed ball from the women’s first team, and complimentary tickets to a match of your choice. There will also be other prizes as well. The draw will be held on Monday the 2nd of September so make sure you get your tickets fast!
If you would like to buy tickets, please comment below, message me, or ask myself or one of my friends and family who will be helping me to sell them throughout the week. The tickets cost £1 each or 6 for £5, and for prizes like these it’s definitely worth it.

I would like to thank all of you for your amazing support so far throughout the past 8 months, 8 days to go😊🇿🇲

Hi everyone!!

As some of you already know, today I did a sponsored skydive at Wild Geese Skydive to raise money for my year in Zambia!🤗🇿🇲 Because of weather issues, this was kept under wraps on my page and only talked about in person as there was a chance that I wouldn’t be able to get it done before I go away! Despite this, almost £500 has been raised through sponsors so far which is amazing😊

If you would like to donate, you can do this through my fundraising page
https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/KaitlynBoyd , or through speaking to me or my family. With my current total sitting at £4,976, I still have £1,224 left to raise before I go away so every donation no matter how big or small is very greatly appreciated.

A big thank you to everyone that has sponsored me so far, and a big thank you to Pete for being a brilliant skydive instructor😊

Thank you all for your continued support, we’re in the home stretch now🤗

I would like to say a massive thank you to Moyle Primary School & Nursery Unit as during the last week of school they had two non uniform days in support of my year volunteering in Zambia and raised an amazing £280!!🤗🇿🇲

Hi everyone!! I’m into the last stretch of fundraising before I head off for my training and then to Zambia, not long to go now🇿🇲

I’m holding a fundraiser next Saturday (the 13th) in Larne Pigeon Club- entry is £5.00, and you’ll get your first shot free at the bar when you show your ticket.

There will also be a raffle on the night, and as always if anyone would like to donate any raffle prizes it would be very greatly appreciated😊

It would be great to see lots of people there: invite your friends, everyone welcome!!🇿🇲
