Introducing SHOCC Dances: English Ceilidh in the South - a monthly (September to April) ceilidh series in South Hampshire for the South of England. Dances are held in The Hilt (Cuckoo Bushes Hall), SO53 5NP. It's air conditioned with a sprung oak floor, and plenty of parking; and it's only 5 minutes from J12 off the M3, near Winchester. Doors open at 19:15 for a 19:30 start. There will be a 20 min
ute or so break part way through the evening. Bring your own (alcoholic) drinks; tap water will be available. English Ceilidh (pronounced kaylee) is a lively, energetic, and upbeat version of English barn or country dancing, suitable for all ages. Bands play exciting music with good rhythmic drive from a variety of musical traditions, including rock, jazz, world, and roots music as well as English, Scottish, and Irish folk music. A caller guides novices and experienced dancers alike through each of the dances; you can turn up and have fun with no prior knowledge of what is going to happen. Wear comfortable shoes or trainers, and cool clothing; although the hall is air-conditioned you can get quite warm whilst dancing. English Ceilidh is social dancing at its best. Come with a partner, a group of friends, or on your own; there will be plenty of people to dance with. Most dances are for sets of couples, rather than just a couple on their own. Come prepared to enjoy yourself and have a great evening. Tickets prices*:
