Notably autumnal now! Ah, the serene mellow fruitfulness. Cooler evenings, a change in the light. It'll soon be time to spark the tinder at the taproom. Get those logs burning. Gives it a mountain chalet kind of vibe, toasty inside full of jolly folks raising their steins (pints actually) in jubilant salute. Quite fitting as this weekend we are joined all weekend by the O.G. bringers of the Alpine cheese; SPECS & BEAR RACLETTE. Melting hearts from their horse box hatch.

Friday we have a pizza pop up courtesy of Boella - all the way from Brighton. Really great pizza. And I'm a terrible pizza snob so it really must be good.

THURSDAY - live music from SKYBAR TIGER. Was an absolutely belting evening last time he was with us. "What Skybar Tiger does so well is take a folk-infused indie sound and reshape it, but gently enough that it still has mass appeal. What also has appeal is the nature of the lyrics; using poetic and sometimes challenging language"

Do come and enjoy! Bar food menu available.

We're tailing off the live music as we head into the cooler seasons in favour of other events - talks, quizzes, poetry, comedy and such. There are just three more music events on the immediate horizon...

Thursday 17th Skybar Tiger
Thursday 24th Sheraton Brown

Seeing out the summer SUNDAY 27th
THE ALBION SKIFFLE COMPANY

Thursday 8th October Alex Jeffrey (new date)

MUSIC QUIZ kicks off Weds 23rd - drop me a line to book your place.

And anyone heading to Mayfield Bonfire Carnival on Saturday do swing by for a pint and some sustenance with us on your way. There's a 10% discount on beers (including takeaway) if you're in Bonfire Dress. Hooped jerseys, Vikings, Victorians...all welcome. You know who you are.

Stay human.

It's the start of a new term / semester / season and have we got a fun packed one for you?

Yes, yes we do.

Keeping it local and live we have got fantastic local musicians - Thursdays at 7pm - and on Sunday 27th at 3pm.

New Term

Thursday 3rd September 7pm
Kicking off with live music from Alex Jeffrey
Sussex-based singer, songwriter, and musician known for playing folk, rock, jazz, and indie-adjacent styles featuring dense, witty or cryptic storytelling lyrics, catchy melodies, and intricate fingerpicking. His standout record is the beautifully intricate The Owl On My Garden Wall. [

Thursday 10th September 7pm.
Mike Wilton is a singer, songwriter, and highly respected guitarist deeply rooted in the East Sussex and Kent music scenes. His signature sound is a vibrant, melodic blend of classic British rock, indie, and blues-flavoured pop. best known as the frontman and primary songwriter for the blues-rock trio The Standard Lamps. The band earned an exceptional reputation for their raw energy and tight, authentic 1960s/70s British rock style

Thursday 17th September 7pm
Skybar Tiger builds what reviewers describe as a "folk-punk road poet" style. Musically, it takes traditional acoustic, folk-infused indie roots and gives them a sharper, punchier edge. His standout 2025 single, “Pulling Away From Our Friends”, received critical praise for its poignant, witty dissection of the post-lockdown world. It captures how people struggle to slip back into normal social lives, becoming more insular and closed off.

Thursday 24th September 7pm
Sheraton Brown duo play a lively, foot-stomping mix of Irish traditional music, classic Country, Americana, and folk rock. weave intricate guitar and mandolin lines together to create a full, upbeat rhythm. We love them. Dearly.

Sunday 27th 3pm The Albion Skiffle Company is a lively, acoustic folk band coming all the way from the coast at The Albion, of Hastings Old Town. Playing vibrant roots and folk music, keeping traditional, upbeat British skiffle style alive on a mix of instruments improvised and other. If you seen them before you know what a seemingly chaotic good time they create.

Return of the Quixotic Music Quiz WEDNESDAY 23rd September - email me to book your team in.

All these events are free to attend while extremely enriching.

ON Sunday 20th at 2pm there's a talk. That'll be quite taxing. Clink on pictures for more info. 'I just dropped in to see'

Dear friends, neighbours, and the Sussex & Kent street food customer and community, Many of you know Pramod Poudel — affectionately known to everyone as Pedro—as the warm, hard-working face behind the MoMo Nepalese Street Food truck. Today, he and his family urgently need our community's support.Following the recent devastating flash floods on the Nepal-Tibet border, four members of Pedro’s immediate family—his mother, his wife, his brother, and his uncle—have tragically gone missing.Pedro has dropped everything to fly out to Nepal to join the search and rescue efforts. As a result, his food truck businesses and all local bookings have been put on hold. As a self-employed business owner, facing this unthinkable nightmare also means facing an immediate loss of livelihood, alongside mounting emergency travel, logistical, and rescue costs. As heard on BBC Radio Sussex, Pedro is a vital part of our local community. Now it is our turn to step up for him.We are raising funds to help cover Pedro's:Emergency travel and search logistics in NepalOngoing family support costs during the rescue effortsImmediate living and business overhead expenses while the truck is off the roadEvery single donation, no matter how small, will directly relieve the financial pressure on Pedro so he can focus entirely on finding his family and bringing them home.Thank you for your generosity. Please share this page widely.

This page has been set up by Helen Graves - manager at Lakedown Taproom, where Pedro regularly pops up, funds will be sent directly to him to use as he needs.
