☕ Tiramisù. Italian for “pick me up”. Also translates to “cancel the taxi”, “one more coffee, technically” and “see you next week” — verified by the kitchen at The Winford Arms, Dundry.

Coffee-soaked sponge, mascarpone cream, a dusting of cocoa, dark chocolate drizzle and a strawberry that thinks it’s in charge. The dessert that turns up after dinner and somehow makes room for itself.

The best pick-me-up near Bristol Airport that doesn’t come in a paper cup. No queue, no lid, no “is that a medium or a large”.

🛫 Departures, 19:42, The Winford Arms, Dundry. Your diet: delayed. Regret: cancelled. Linguine ai Gamberoni: now boarding at table 4.

King prawns in garlic and chilli butter, a roasted shellfish sauce, courgette, cherry tomatoes and fresh parsley, all tangled through linguine. Second helping: on time. Leftovers: no show. Garlic: boarding, and it’s not a quiet passenger.

The only departures board near Bristol Airport you’ll actually enjoy staring at. No queues, no gate changes, no tiny bag of pretzels.

The sun’s drinking partner. 🍊

Gin, bitters and sweet vermouth, stirred over ice and finished with a slice of orange. A classic Negroni, taken slowly, as the last of the light settles over the pub garden.

Made in a minute. Savoured for an hour.

Tomatoes have peaked. So has our bruschetta. 🍅

Vine-ripened tomatoes, red onion, garlic and fresh basil, piled onto our own homemade bread and toasted until it makes a noise. A glug of extra virgin olive oil to finish.

Vegan, and usually gone by the time you’ve finished saying “we’ll just share one”.

Summer’s on its way out. This isn’t. Not yet, anyway.
