We are a newly created collective for musicians in Brighton. My name is David and I'm a guitarist - I wanted to create a space where musicians can feel free to jam, come up with ideas and share creativity.
How Does It Work?
We meet up at rehearsal spaces around Brighton on dates that we decide on together, and occasionally online (although I am a believer in IRL jamming). Members can rotate different dates and take turns, equally shared time-wise, on the day to save on costs and depending on venue size. On the meeting dates, each musician has an assured spot to jam - at least to begin with - and all members can bring pieces of music, including covers, that we can play together.
Values
Democracy rules! Everyone has an equal voice and equal rights, and the coordinator does just that - coordinates and moderates. Patience when trying to learn something - if you are less expert - and, for those more experienced, patience when sharing your knowledge (and learning! You might be surprised), are the only necessary requirements.
Each session we will get to know each other and apply techniques to leave out the stress of the everyday "adult" world and every form of prejudice. What I want is for this to be a corner of freedom - as, in our lives, we all have to "fit into a box" at one point or another, this is a safe haven from that. We are all equal and everyone's voice is valued equally. Each person's individuality is highly valuable and recognised.
I don't exclude the possibility to create a big band out of this, with no genre limits!
