People often ask how chords are made, and the truth is it's pretty easy - if you know the major scale, you can find those notes all over the fretboard to play the chords in different places.

FULL PENTATONIC SCALE ACROSS THE NECK. This is A minor pentatonic, starting on the fifth shape to show how it connects, then going through shapes 1-5. Slight mistake towards the end 🙄🤐 hopefully you get the idea and any questions just let me know! And remember if you want to master the pentatonic scale across the neck, hit the link in my bio!

How to play the 5th pentatonic shape. A lot of people don't learn this one, but you definitely should. It's simple to look at (if you've read my pentatonic guide the fingering is 2 narrow, 2 wide and 2 narrow, link in my bio if you haven't read it - DM me for 50% discount code) but it's quite tricky because your fingers aren't used to the pattern. With this one you can slide *back* from shape 1 and expand your playing horizontally along the neck. Great for busting out of ruts!

Last week I parted with my 4x12 to get something more manageable. Today this #1936 2x12 cab arrived. And the head was fixed so it no longer thinks it's in standby! Valve tone for days!

There's a temptation as we progress as players to stop playing the "basic" things like scales. But they remain important - I usually play the major scale as 3 notes per string, and am learning this classical version to keep my playing fresh and fingers versatile. And always remember to play slow and clean at first, working on the technique and clean fretting and picking. Plus playing slower helps embed the sound of each note in your brain, making improv that much easier later on.

Honeybee by Tom Petty - I really think this is one of the dirtiest riffs in rock n roll. It's also one of the easiest, the main riff is open E, G, A and C. Throw in bends and slides to make it nice and gritty. The chorus is A, C, D, F. Enjoy!

Had some fun today noodling some blues in A, using the Bluesbreaker app in the Marshall Code.

Squeezing a few scales in while breakfast cooks. You don't need to practice for hours for it to be worthwhile - use the extra minutes throughout the day to play something even if it's only once. It's amazing how effective it is.
