There’s nothing wrong with defaulting to red wine, but it usually means one of two things:

You don’t want to choose the wrong bottle (but you will - a Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara is not the same as a Pinot Noir from Germany).

Or you don’t feel like making sense of the entire wine list just to order a glass.

If you’ve ever thought, “Where do I even go for good wine around here?”

I had that exact thought when my family PCS’d to Germany.

Hey, I’m Maria, founder of Really Grape - so glad you’re here. If you love wine and want to experience Europe like a local, keep reading.

As someone who basically drank wine her whole life (hello, Napa), I assumed it would be easy... and then realized the best wine events, tastings, and boutique wineries aren’t always obvious — and definitely not all in one place.

I spent months translating German from papers posted on trees (👀), feeling lost in translation at tastings, finding out about fun events after the fact, or just guessing and hoping for the best.

Now, after years of living in Germany, popping into wineries and befriending winemakers, I’ve basically done the digging (and the sipping) for you!

Instead of keeping that knowledge to myself, I write What’s Sippening, a weekly email with wine walks, festivals, tastings and the best wine experiences across Germany & Europe that Google won’t help you find.

Germany has four seasons… and then there’s Fasching 🎭🍬🍷

If you’re new here (or still doing that polite expat nod while thinking wait, what is happening): Fasching is Germany’s version of Mardi Gras / Carnival. There's costumes, candy, parades, and the entire country pretending it’s totally normal to party all day in February.

It technically starts on November 11 at 11:11 (because Germans are nothing if not precise) and continues until February when the entire country loses its mind the week before Lent begins.

Most people head straight to Koln (Fair). And sure, it’s iconic. But if packed streets and elbow-to-elbow chaos aren’t your thing, there are other ways to experience Fasching like a local. Follow the wine.... 😉 In this weeks sippening, we'll tell you where to go.
