Working on some patterning for a far in the future project. Small pieces are hard! Lol turned out better than I expected for my first time doing this. Worked out a bunch of angles and a bunch of repetitive cuts. Should turn out really nice. This one is going to require lots of patience for the end of the story though. Also going to require my table saw getting fixed 🤣

Been a while since I posted...crazy life lol but got around to finally starting my Xmas woodworking gifts and built my first wooden box. This was an interesting journey as my table saw broke in the middle of this build but I did finish it. Learned a lot and can definitely attest to the adage that small boxes are genuinely hard to get right. The miters were really tough to get exact due to blade deflection and the small pieces. I am proud of the wood combination with just scraps that I had on hand. The bottom should have been the same dark wood as the top band but the piece broke so I just utilized some maple plywood bc I was dying to complete this yesterday after 3 weeks of slow progress lol. Lots of imperfections like wavy router lines on the inside and uneven top bc uneven thickness to miters that don't quite line up and glue marks that I didn't properly clean up. I finished it with h**p seed oil, first time using, and a carnauba wax/mineral oil paste. But I like it and it still looks great and it works! Lol lots of thanks to Steve Ramsey for the inspiration and video about making these little boxes. I'll get on a tear when my table saw is fixed and I can complete all the actual boxes for a late Xmas gift giving. Thanks to all the woodworking community for all the fabulous tips and amazing inspiration!

And last photo dump which I am pretty proud of. This was super challenging but of course dear to my heart since it was my first anniversary gift to my wife back in June. (Love you baby, 😘) Clocks and paper are the gifts to give for first year, so what I did was combine the clock and the paper, the paper being the glitter paper "one". And every year for the next 11 years I will add a number based on the type of anniversary. This was made with one piece of purple heart block, about 12x7x1.25. So this was inspired by the work of Seth Rollins (does he have a Instagram?) and I made cuts alternating back and forth from opposite sides. Then soaked in boiling hot water (several batches) and then fanned out to make the clock petals. Used orange agate for the center piece. One thing I definitely learned is it is hard to do this on a table saw lol definitely would do this in a band saw next time. The quality and consistency of my cuts were a little off so that's why the petals are uneven - made it difficult for the petals to evenly spread but I used the center piece to help with that. Had to glue up a couple of breaks where the wood broke when I was trying to fan it out and that's what glue is for lol I have in mind that I may redo it at a future date with better tools or maybe even handsaw with a Japanese pull saw. I love how I was able to take a block of wood and turn it into this light and airy piece of craft. So hope y'all enjoy a taste of what I am doing in the side and what I hope to do a lot more of!! And thanks for welcoming to the woodworking world! I am definitely all in!! 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥

Another round of extracurricular activities... These were the sushi trays I made for my sister, my brother in law, and my niece. Again a couple of late nights before Xmas and these turned out better than I imagined before hand. I used a single piece of rainbow poplar, which I had no idea was rare -bought it on a lark from an Etsy shop I buy wood from- and ripped a bunch of thin strips and kept them in order so they lined up exactly as they were cut. Used some cypress for the bottoms. Probably about 11 x 7-8". I don't remember now. It's amazing how much I have learned since I did these projects for Christmas, esp around finishing pieces. I already started planning out this year's Xmas gifts and have two started. Can't wait to see how they turn out.

Since I am fully engaged with IG, I thought I would finally get around to posting some extracurricular activities other than my usual soap trays for my wife's business. This was a wine bottle wine glass holder for my mom for Xmas last year. Made with a gorgeous piece of purple heart with thin strips of wenge and maple inlayed in flowing curves. Was really fun doing this, esp with the limited tools I have, a jig saw and table saw and like 2 late nights lol life definitely throws curve balls but you take what you got and make what you can. I couldn't get good pics of the finished product since the light was terrible lol
