R -YOUTH is an Ethnic - based youth organization created by young Raizals from the Archipelago of San Andrés, Old Providence and Saint Catherine. As young islanders, we want to build new paths (while recognizing the achievements of our ancestors) to demand, exercise, think, look, feel and live a meaningful autonomy. Our purpose is to found a Raizal ideal (to put a Raizal idea in place), to structu
rally transform the visions and perspectives inside and outside the Archipelago; from the struggle for the rights of the Raizal people, the development of activities, programs and academic, economic, cultural, scientific and social impact projects, to improve the well-being of the Raizal people and the islander community in general. OUR PRINCIPLES:
1. IDENTITY (being). Is our fundamental principle aimed at strengthening and developing the ethnic and cultural being of the Raizal people, through their spiritual practices, their value systems and their own and traditional knowledge.
2. TERRITORIALITY (place of being): Our territory is the geographical space where the Raizal people build and re-produce forms of cultural and political life. It´s the material foundation for their survival, as well as a political need connected directly to the right of autonomy and self-determination.
3. AUTONOMY (exercise of being): It´s the Raizal people´s right to decide their own form of government, to pursue their own economic, social and cultural development without any outside ingerence.
4. DEMOCRACY: It refers to the combination of a set of rules and procedures to exercise control, opposition and collective decision-making through instruments which ensure the widest Raizal community participation.
5. INTERCULTURALITY: It´s the ability to recognize our own culture and cosmovision and from there, project to others and interact with them in a dynamic way under the criterion of respect for difference. Quienes Somos
R-YOUTH es un proceso organizativo de base etnica-juvenil liderado por jóvenes Raizales del Archipiélago de San Andrés, Providencia y Santa Catalina. Este proceso nace de la indignación de los jóvenes Raizales, por la falta de soluciones concretas a los complejos problemas que afectan nuestro archipiélago. Por esta razón, nuestra propuesta se enmarca en la construcción de nuevos caminos para exigir, ejercer, pensar, mirar, sentir y vivir con sentido la autonomía como eje fundamental, para construir un mejor futuro para el archipiélago. NUESTROS PRINCIPIOS:
a. IDENTIDAD (Ser): Es el principio fundamental que está dirigido a fortalecer y desarrollar el ser étnico y cultural del pueblo Raizal, a través de sus prácticas espirituales, sistemas de valores, lengua, saberes propios y tradicionales. TERRITORIALIDAD (Lugar para Ser): El territorio es nuestro espacio geográfico en donde se construye y se re-produce las formas de vida culturales y políticas del pueblo Raizal. Por eso, es la base material para su supervivencia, como también, una necesidad política conectada directamente al derecho de la autonomía y autodeterminación. c. AUTONOMÍA (Ejercicio del Ser): Es el derecho del pueblo Raizal a decidir su propia forma de gobierno, a perseguir su propio desarrollo económico, ambiental, social y cultural sin ninguna injerencia externa. d. DEMOCRACIA: Se refiere a la combinación de un conjunto de reglas y procedimientos para el ejercicio del control, la oposición y la toma de decisiones colectivas, a través de instrumentos donde se garantice la más amplia participación del pueblo Raizal. e. INTERCULTURALIDAD: Es la capacidad de reconocer la propia cultura y cosmovisión para que desde ésta, proyectarse a otras e interactuar con las mismas de manera dinámica bajo el criterio del respeto a la diferencia.
