The first time I heard Barroness play was at Boreal, an eclectic, canoe-in music gathering held each summer in the forests of Moon river by the legendary Alien InFlux crew. Late that night under the shimmering stars and laser bathed tree canopy, she commanded the dance floor through her snappy, sensuous, psychedelic beats and her flawlessly articulate mixing style. For that 90 minutes she created a sensory experience and atmosphere that held the enthusiastic crowd captivated and dancing ecstatically. I got to meet her the next day, and now she’s always a smiling face I’m happy to see when Rosie and I attend parties or festivals. Barroness is a regular at Boreal, Harvest Festival, Electric Island and TorontoPRIDE, and is the founder of Toronto’s PHANTOM and PHANTOMFEST.
With so many musical friends who are full of talent and creative energy, it makes deciding on who to feature at our next event a difficult task. When I settled on the idea of doing a techno flavoured night, as a departure from the reggae, and bass music we have often featured, I knew Barroness had to be here.
We are wildly excited to welcome her and present her sound on our tailored Soundsystem to create a magical space for dancers and listeners alike. While the classic Shack Shaker vibes you love will still be in full effect, this night will be something new and different from what we’ve done so far. I hope you will join us for this special occasion and come out to experience something that no one else in our area can deliver.
