Back in 2021, District of Cactus Development came to Kennedy, Saskatchewan and spoke with town council. They said that they supported the idea of this development.
In 2021 the project started, the general store was opened, and a wooden sidewalk and hitching posts were installed, and yet not even town council supported the store, other than 1 or 2 of them. The prices were cheaper than the surrounding towns, but still, not even 99% of the local town people would support the store.
The locals wanted a fast-food restaurant and a saloon so, the fall of 2021 Flaming Star was opened. Flaming Star had a little more support from the local people than the general store, but not much more.
Town people kept asking for a saloon. So over $90,000.00 was spent on remodelling the attached hardware store into a saloon.
Early 2022 The District of Cactus Chuckwagon Grill & Saloon was born. With a town of over 200 residents, you would think they would support a project that was offering the local employment, entertainment, and business to their town – But NOPE not the people of Kenndy.
With little support from the local people and backstabbing council, the project kept moving forward.
Now, District of Cactus also bought land, 75 acres in the RM of Wawakins 93.
Now talk about a JOKE! This RM does not want to work with anyone that is not local to that area. All we wanted was, to open a campground, that would have brought a lot of money into the local area and help build the project.
But NO was the answer!
Back to the project in Kennedy. The winter of 2021/22 brought a few nasty and stormy days, but do you think the town could clean the streets. Keep in mind, Kennedy has a lot of older retired residence, does that matter “NO” it does not.
So, on a very slippery day, the staff of the District of Cactus after seeing an elderly lady slip and almost fall while exiting her vehicle in front of the post office. Due to the lack of care of town council to clean and keep the town streets cleared of snow and ice. District of Cactus took it upon themselves to drive to Kipling and bought a load of sand to sand some of the main streets. They proceeded to sand, by hand a few of the main streets. Still, do you think town council or 99% of Kennedy would realize, the project was a good thing and support it? NOPE, not even now!
Having a few very good supporters from the town, but still most the supporters were coming from towns such as Langbank, Kipling, Windthorst, to name a few, the Flaming Star and the District of Cactus Chuckwagon Grill & Saloon was managing, until the rodeo 2022.
First of all, the rodeo event put on by the pro rodeo in Kennedy is very disappointing. Nothing for families, nothing for children, except a sand hill in the parking lot. WOW, lots of fun!
District if Cactus felt the rodeo was so lame, we even pulled out of being on the rodeo board, and even stopped our sponsorship. Then again maybe that is tit for tat, they do not support us, so why should we support them.
On one day of the 2022 rodeo, the mayor of District of Cactus witnesses a man, in his late 40’s early 50’s urinating in front of children playing on the sand hill. He approached the man and told him to put away due to the children seeing him. After a verbal confrontation, the person (well known to the locals) was removed.
On the same day, one of the children (9 year old) with District of Cactus was served been from a server in the rodeo’s beer garden. WOW, God forbid, now that the mother of said 9 year old, approached the bartender and explained that what was done was very illegal and should never be permitted.
Well, that day was the end of District of Cactus’s survival in the small town of Kenndy.
Members of the town council explained to District of Cactus, that by telling an adult male that had his private parts exposed in front of small children, and by allowing a mother of a 9 year old young girl that was served alcohol, to explain the law and by the mayor going and discussing these things with the president of the rodeo association that, that was the destruction of the project.
At that time, the District of Cactus, decided we wanted NO part of this type of community! A community that is ran by a council that believes minors and I mean, not under 18, but under 10, should be served alcohol and that adult males should be allowed to show their private parts, and how it has urine coming out of it to children.
A pro rodeo association president that runs to the town council when someone complains about children being served alcohol.
Kennedy's town people claimed that District of Cactus was a cult – WE PROVED YOU WRONG!
Kennedy council said they wanted to improve their town – WE PROVED YOU WRONG!
Kennedy is run like a cult, and thus the reason people said District of Cactus was one.
The District of Cactus, all store and employees, thanks those few loyal supporters, those few are incredibly good people, you tried to keep us going, you have good dreams for your town. But the rest of you people, we will be polite but, you know what you can do!
District of Cactus, has pulled out of Kennedy Saskatchewan.
